Personal Narrative Essay: Hooked On Fishing

Hooked on Fishing Some people never get to experience the thrill of fishing or they just don’t like it. I am lucky enough to have an uncle with the same interests as me. I thought that getting up early on the Sunday before the last week of school would be horrible. I was at my grandma’s house and was getting up to go fishing on my uncle’s boat. I had gone fishin previously, but only in small ponds with small fish. We drove all the way to Lewiston on a windy day and put the boat in the water. Little did I know that this fishing trip would get me hooked on fishing and help me get closer with my uncle. I went to my grandma's the night before because she lives closer to my uncle than me. I was getting picked up at 5:30 to go pick up my uncle’s friend then head to Lewiston to launch the boat. We put the boat in the water just to find out that the boat engine wouldn’t start due to a dead battery. We were about to turn around when the harbormaster let us use his jump start cables. It was a very windy day on the water so we weren’t expecting many fish to be caught. We were in our spot to start drifting around 7:30. I remember the wind and water hitting my face and the boat …show more content…
We were all expecting to get one fish each. It surprised us all when we caught nine smallmouth and two steelhead. For my uncle and his friend, it was just another day fishing on the boat. The only thing different was the weather and that they had to share the boat with one more person. For me, this was something I would remember for a while. I thought I knew a decent amount about fishing until I went out on the boat. It was unbelievable the amount of stuff I learned about the fish and how to fish for them. Since then, I have been on the boat one other time. That time we caught only two bass because it happened to be one of the hottest days of the year. Also, it was only me and my uncle so he let me drive the boat around the calmer waters of Lake

Kevin backed the crimson red Key West 1760 Stealth into the water and assembled our stuff together to prepare for our half-day fishing excursion. As my family and I sat there waiting for Kevin to prepare our rods, I started feeling anxious. Once he was done, we headed out on the Key West 1760 Stealth equipped with two ninety horsepower outboard motors that looked about as large as the eighteen-foot boat itself. When Kevin fired up the motor all I could smell was the tantalizing fumes. Finally, our trip with Shore Thang Charters was…

I was so happy and surprised that I got it, I looked over to my father with a smile on his face of approval. We crabbed for a few hours till it became dark. On our way back we rowed over to the big square crab trap that we put out earlier. As we got closer I looked into the water a saw a baby shark which freaked me out and I yelled SHARK at the top of my lungs like I was in the movie Jaws. My father and brother laughed and said it was harmless and with a sly of relief I sat back down.…

After being pushed out of the dock area I started to paddle as if I was a pro and turns out I am pretty good at it and starting paddling away as my son sat giggling and screaming with joy. It was a tad scary because I didn’t want him to fall in but he behaved pretty darn well if I do say so myself. I paddled for an hour and a half until my arms got sore so I had switched my son for my mom. Being out in the country my mom had no signal most of the time but she found signal in the middle of the lake and decided to have me sit there while she posted on Facebook. Soon after that it was time to get out and go…

There I was in the middle of Saskatchewan, Canada fishing with my grandfather. My mother and brother were also there and we had been fishing for about four hours. We had taken a 45 minute boat ride to into the back river system in order to get to the “Glory Hole” as my grandfather calls it. All was still and it just started drizzling a little which is normal for the afternoon, in summer at the area we were at. But as we started the motor to leave it roared to life and sputtered out within seconds.…

I always loved the trip, but this year it was different we were already halfway through the week-long trip and only been out fishing one day. To make things even worse we hadn't even had a bite all day. All I wanted to do was go back to the island and make up for the part of the day we lost trying to fish, but my dad, on the other hand, thought we should stay out here all day to make the most of it. Which I didn't get because it looked like we were the only one out here for miles. There…

When we got it into the boat it was massive, nothing like I had seen before in that species. Thankfully we had a guide with us who had a scale. The weight came to be 8.75lbs, which for a bass is massive. After it was released back into the water we headed back for a delicious meal and some rest. The other days we stayed, we did well for fish caught, but no other good sized fish like my bass on that day.…

Scuba diving taught me that I need to calm down and not worry so much. My parents had been planning a trip to Italy and asked me if I wanted to go scuba diving. I answered so fast as I thought about being under water and swimming with all the beautiful fish and aquatic life. My parents had researched for a guy for me and my brothers to take lessons with. A few days later my dad brought us a book and told…
