Personal Narrative Essay: Hooked On Fishing

Improved Essays
Hooked on Fishing Some people never get to experience the thrill of fishing or they just don’t like it. I am lucky enough to have an uncle with the same interests as me. I thought that getting up early on the Sunday before the last week of school would be horrible. I was at my grandma’s house and was getting up to go fishing on my uncle’s boat. I had gone fishin previously, but only in small ponds with small fish. We drove all the way to Lewiston on a windy day and put the boat in the water. Little did I know that this fishing trip would get me hooked on fishing and help me get closer with my uncle. I went to my grandma's the night before because she lives closer to my uncle than me. I was getting picked up at 5:30 to go pick up my uncle’s friend then head to Lewiston to launch the boat. We put the boat in the water just to find out that the boat engine wouldn’t start due to a dead battery. We were about to turn around when the harbormaster let us use his jump start cables. It was a very windy day on the water so we weren’t expecting many fish to be caught. We were in our spot to start drifting around 7:30. I remember the wind and water hitting my face and the boat …show more content…
We were all expecting to get one fish each. It surprised us all when we caught nine smallmouth and two steelhead. For my uncle and his friend, it was just another day fishing on the boat. The only thing different was the weather and that they had to share the boat with one more person. For me, this was something I would remember for a while. I thought I knew a decent amount about fishing until I went out on the boat. It was unbelievable the amount of stuff I learned about the fish and how to fish for them. Since then, I have been on the boat one other time. That time we caught only two bass because it happened to be one of the hottest days of the year. Also, it was only me and my uncle so he let me drive the boat around the calmer waters of Lake

One beautiful spring day Dad, Jamye, Madi, Nolan, and I went to Gulf shores, Alabama. The ride there was fun going through Mississippi and all of the swamps. They were really neat. The ride there took us about 15 hours or so my dad drove the whole day and was exhausted. He went straight to bed. It was spring break so there were quite a few people there. The hotels owned the beach that we stayed in, so that helped but we had a lot of room. Once we unpacked and settled into our hotel we walked out onto the balcony we had the BEST view of the beach and ocean. After that it was pretty late, Nolan and I went out to catch geckos all around the building. We caught a ton, it was so fun. Later that night, Dad and I went out at…

It was a hot summer, sunny day in Florida usually like most others but today was special. I was going deep-sea fishing for the very first time, my mom told me to put on a lot of sunscreens, so I don’t get sunburn. My family and I got dressed and got into the car and made our way for Pompano Beach pier, where the charter boat would be leaving from. We all packed into the boat like a can of sardens, the captain started the engine and we looked over at the glistening deep blue ocean, the seas where calm, when we arrived at the fishing spot the mates gave us fishing poles and told us to drop the baits in the water, a few seconds later the rod is bent over and the line is screeching like crazy, my parents and the captain start yelling at me to reel…

Ever since I was the mere age of three, while sitting in a bathtub, I had an inseparable fascination with the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. From the otherworldly giant tube worms situated on volcanic vents, to the serene basking shark meandering through the current, all of it showcased the diversity of the world beneath the surface of the waves.…

I hid under the covers until my sister came from the kitchen with a bowl of popcorn. We all jumped out off of the couches and hurdled around Harmony like she was a football coach and we were the players. I of course was the first one to get popcorn since I was the smallest. After the episode of Shark Week, we started to surf the channels until we found JAWS. By this time it was 8 p.m. I was tired and I was ready to go to the lake. Dozing off, I woke to the sound of a blood curdling scream, and a person being eaten by a shark. I could not fall back asleep until the movie was over, it was 10:10 pm, way past my bedtime. I don’t remember when I fell back asleep but I remember being rushed out of the house and burning some rubber. We were off to the lake. After a half-hour drive, we were at the lake we were scoping out for my Grandma. We found her right away in her fluorescent pink stand-up jet-ski and her matching life-jacket. We pulled up, rocks hitting the windows and everyone anxious to get out. Once the car was parked we jumped out and headed towards the water. I on the other hand, was very…
