Employing workers from different backgrounds can provide both tangible and intangible benefits to any business. It most certainly gives these businesses a competitive edge in the sales world.
Companies all over the world are spending increased time and money creating diversity programs and initiatives to address the need for more diversity in the workplace. But there’s still a huge gap between the true demographics of our population and what our workplaces reflect.
Not only is hiring a diverse sales team the right thing to do, but it also allows a sales department to grow and thrive with an increase in productivity, creativity, and trust. Here are five of the top benefits you will see if you decide to make your sales department more diverse.

In a recent study, McKinsey consultants concluded that companies in the top 25 percent for gender diversity were 15 percent more likely to produce better returns than those with fewer diverse employees. Companies in that top quadrant for racial and ethnic diversity were likely to do even better.
2. Expanded Talent Pool
There a number of industries that are blowing up right now—they can’t find enough people to fill the positions. This may not be caused by a lack of trained people looking for work, but by employers looking in the wrong places.
By opening up your hiring pool to those of different genders, ethnicities, races, and backgrounds, it allows you to not only increase diversity but to cast the net wider to fill skilled positions.
