Cesna Skyhawk Case Study Summary

Cessna Skyhawk single-jet planes, first built in 1956 by Clyde Cessna, were very profitable in the 1980’s. However, with a downturn in the aviation business during the following 15 years, Cessna was unable to produce enough profit to sustain production of the Skyhawk and similar piston-engine planes and stopped production. Stopping production also resulted in Cessna laying off 75 percent of their employees. Fortunately, Skyhawks are not the only aircrafts that Cessna builds and they were able to stay in business. After the economy started improving and the General Aviation Revitalization Act was enacted in 1994, Cessna was inspired to start producing Skyhawks again. Cessna Skyhawks are very well known and many pilots have learned …show more content…
As the vice-president of Cessna’s single-engine business, I am contemplating the introduction of production teams. “Companies are making greater use of teams because teams have been shown to improve customer satisfaction, product and service quality, speed and efficiency in product development, employee job satisfaction, and decision making.” (Williams, 2017, page 199). An advantage to having teams vs. an individual is that teams can bounce ideas and solutions off each other and therefore more likely to see all aspects of the issues. Diverse teams will provide a wide array of talents and skill levels. Team members can learn from each other, therefore, acquiring new skills and broadening their abilities. Teams also motivate and encourage each other. Individuals are more apt to work harder when working on teams in order to not “let others down” or be considered the weak point of the …show more content…
Careful review of each resume and application will be performed in order to select the best applicants for each position. Once the best applicants are chosen from the resumes and applications we will schedule interviews accordingly. I prefer to use the structured interview process, in which all candidates receive the same questions. All employees considered for hiring must complete reference and background checks prior to hiring. It is also crucial to create diverse teams. “Diversity helps companies with cost savings by reducing turnover, decreasing absenteeism, and avoiding expensive lawsuits.” (Williams, 2017, page 249). Diversity also provides a broader span of viewpoints, skill levels and

On December 17th, 1903, the Wright Brothers took flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The iconic event was the first fully documented successful powered flight by a heavier-than-air aircraft. The brothers catapulted to the front of aviation innovation; the names Orville and Wilbur Wright became known world-wide, and the brothers were celebrated as heroes in the United States. All of this praise couldn’t last forever, though, and soon Orville and Wilbur encountered issues with the patenting and proof of legitimacy of their flying method. These issues escalated into a full blown patent war between the brothers and other inventors in the field.…

As it began to appear that the aviation industry’s economic status was starting to improve, the industry was faced with three more worldwide disasters; an increase in jet fuel prices, a declining economy, and Hurricane Katrina (Money.cnn.com, 2014). Airlines began making operational cuts in order to stay afloat financially and rise above their competition during this financial crisis (Money.cnn.com, 2014). Delta airlines cut seats on international and domestic flights and reduced and ended flights flying from “Cincinnati to London 's Gatwick Airport and Frankfurt” and “Atlanta and Detroit to Mexico City” (News, 2014). To remain competitive during this economic downfall Southwest Airlines, one of Delta’s competitors, cut non profitable flights, added fees, and continued to have airfare sales and promotions to gain new and keep old customers (News, 2014). This was a rough and unsteady period for the aviation industry.…

The Revolutionary Wright Brothers Flight was dreamt by many and achieved by two people, Orville and Wilbur Wright. Orville and Wilbur Wright were born in 1871 and 1867 respectively. Their father introduced both of them to engineering at a young age and that sparked their interest in flying. In a biography, written by Tejvan Pettinger, he says, “When they were young, their father bought them a small ‘helicopter’ – built in France. They later commented that this helicopter sparked an interest in flight and they sought to build similar models themselves.”…

The science that goes into a modern aircraft is just amazing. Despite having supersonic fighter jets, or rumored futuristic Hypersonic jets that travel at speeds of Mach 11 (Black Project), they have very humble beginnings. Before the Wright brothers had their success in North Carolina (United States) people were already dreaming of flying through the air, some even flew.…
