Before implementing any ideas, I would educate myself on ways to bring about the promotion of diversity in the business. One of these strategies that I would implement would be to, first of all, allow for the hiring of diverse persons in all departments. In order to promote diversity in all departments, I would ensure that all employees are being treated fairly, by instilling the concept of the organization’s diversity mission statement in all employees. In addition, in order to have different persons be able to grow in the …show more content…
Many awards are given out by the National Diversity Award organization, however, the “ Positive Role Model Award” struck my interest. The Positive Role Model Award is presented to an individual who “help us to be driven, inspired, to focus, to achieve goals and strive to gain success” (“The Awards Categories”, n.d). I believe that this award will indeed help with promoting diversity. Implementing this award into my organization would not only create a competitive atmosphere in the organization but would also lead to a more collaborative workforce. I say this because in order to achieve such an award the individual would have to be a complete role model in the business. They would be driven to proficiently complete tasks, inspire others when working together as a team and leave a lasting impact on the organization. I would include additional requirements to this awards. In order to foster a better and more inclusive diverse work environment, the winner of this positive role model award would also need to actively contribute to increasing diversity initiatives that would positively impact the health of the organization employee wise. I would also include supplementary salary bonuses and/or other incentives in the award, which may also contribute increase participation by employees, which would in turn foster diversity and productivity in the

My reasons for this initiative are: they give individuals a false perspective, only the winners of events should receive awards, and finally that participation awards have no real value. I will support these three reasons with evidence and show you why my statement is true in the following paragraphs. Participation awards give all people a false perspective. I know this from my own experience. Last year at the end of football season we had an "awards" meeting.…

239). Diversity Diversity in the workforce is an important commodity in today’s society. When a company lacks diversity, it misses out on the benefits and opportunities that it would potentially receive if it fully embraced diversity. There are certain solutions that a company should take to help insure that it creates a more diverse workforce. "Difficult goals direct our attention to the task at hand and away from irrelevant distractions," and "lead us to discover strategies that help us perform the job or task more efficiently" (Robins, 2010, p.69).…

Thomas & Ely (1996) espoused that a diverse workforce did not result in the improvement in the performance of the organization. Milliken and Martins (1996), concluded after reviewing the literature that racial and gender diversity can have adverse effect on individual and group outcomes in certain instances. Minority members of the group feel marginalized and suffer lower levels of psychological commitment and higher levels of absenteeism and turnover intent. Watson et al. (1993), postulates that in the course of time these adverse effects may diminish and will be supplanted by better quality and more creative…

Due to numerous disadvantages (e.g. socioeconomic and education), awareness of the history of injustice and discrimination, fear of additional burden and commitment, poor understanding of research processes, ineffective recruitment procedures, and unfavorable researcher attributes, result in minorities not wanting to participate in research (Table 1). Researchers, their teams, and institutions can create facilitators for engaging minorities in research. These facilitators are a combination of tangible (e.g. providing health services) and non-tangible (showing respect and compassion for minorities) recruitment, retention, and barrier reduction strategies (Table 1). Minority individuals should be empowered, convinced of the relevance of the…

Diversity in the workplace improves performance, customer satisfaction, and job satisfaction. Diversity often results in better decision-making, an increased understanding of customers' needs, greater staffing ability, and increased flexibility because it brings a greater pool of talent to the workplace (Gordon, 2012). A leader who values cultural diversity can efficiently solve issues in workplaces and create positive work environments. Power sharing, role responsibilities, and constructive criticism strategies could alleviate cultural and behavioral issues at workplaces and can improve collaboration among members. A leader who makes sure everyone has a voice, rotates responsibility, and asks for feedback improves relational coordination and interprofessional collaboration in workplaces.…

While I haven’t perhaps let this way of life help promote diversity I know that it has allowed me to see others in a new light. Having always feared judgment on myself and in fact being judged and bullied for the way my family was I would say that this has allowed me to look to better understand others and where they are coming from in all that I do. I realize you can’t judge a book by its cover, it doesn't matter how they appear you can’t see what's going on in their life at first glance. Therefore, you shouldn’t judge people on your perceptions of them, they are…

Diversity One of the most significant challenges in relation to management in today’s society is how to embrace and include diversity within companies and teams. It is a concept that has only come to surface in the more recent years and is still being adapted into many organisations around the world. Diversity is defined as representing all the ways people are unlike and alike – the differences and similarities in age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, capabilities and socioeconomic background (Kinicki, Scott-Ladd, Perry, Williams, 2015). Diversity is about looking at differences and similarities together rather than as two separate elements. Lee Gardenswartz and Anita Rowe, two experts on diversity, have come up with…
