Torie: Distracted driving comes in many forms. Some people believe “the message is more important than their safety” (“Reasons Teens Text and Drive”). However, what they are not thinking about is that “more than 32,600 people are killed in motor vehicle accidents in the United States” (“Doubly Dangerous: Snapchatting While Driving”). My position in this argument is that too many good people die because they are using their cell phone while driving. An article describes that “the risk of a crash or near-crash among novice drivers increased with the performance of many secondary tasks, including texting and dialing cell phones” (“Stop Texts Stop Wrecks”). This proves that many accidents today involving vehicles are due to the use of cell phones. They are very dangerous to use while you are trying to concentrate on the road. Although texting may seem more important than many things, is it more important than life? Many people say they comprehend the idea that using a cell phone while driving is dangerous, yet many still participate in doing it today. Chris Mullen, Director of Technology Research at State Farm, stated that minorities need to understand the dangers of using a smartphone and the problems that it can cause. This is important because teenagers need to understand the importance of what can happen while they are distracted by their phone.
