I chose this style because of the multiple advantages, such as, it allows the group to be involved in decision-making, workers are motivated by recognition and support of their achievements and communication can occur at all levels of the chain of command. Another factor influencing my decision was that this style of leadership typically produces high quality of care provided and overall cooperation from the team (ATI Nursing, 2016). These advantages of implementing a democratic leadership style appeared to be effective and accepted by my peers. My peers welcomed instruction and also provided their input on situations. Positive reinforcement resulted in less stress for everyone and a better quality of care overall. Additionally, I think this leadership style made me seem approachable to my peers during my time as the charge. Throughout the day I did not observe any disadvantages to my selection of leadership style. One alternate leadership style I could have utilized was an authoritative style. A particular situation that this style may be effective in was when my peers were rushing to complete vital signs and Accu-Checks before lunch, had I decided for the group that we would complete this tasks by a certain time, everyone may have been done around the same time.
