Carpentry is one of the most important blue collar jobs in the world. It holds much of society together. Without carpentry we would not have homes, businesses, churches, etc. Carpentry is a very important career because it touches everyone 's lives everyday; this is why it is very important for a person to learn this skill sometime in their life. To begin with, there is more to carpentry than just sawing wood and nailing a few nails. Sometimes there are those that believe that you have to have a size nineteen neck and a size four hat. In other words, you 've got to be all brawn and no brain (U.S. News and World Report.). Carpenters have to use many mathematical skills which include basic addition, subtraction and trigonometry (U.S. News and World Report.). Along with having math skills a carpenter should also be in semi good physical condition. They have to be in semi good physical condition because they have to lift wood all day and hammer nails. Sometimes working conditions for carpenters can be strenuous and even dangerous (School Soup.). Prolonged standing, squatting, kneeling, climbing are many times required; along with working with sharp and rough tools and materials. This day in age it is not very hard for an average person to become a carpenter. Many of the carpenters working in the field do not anything more than a high school diploma and hands on training.
