Ata's Cosmetology Career Analysis

As I made the decision to attend ATA’s Cosmetology program, I had my entire focus on graduating and earning my State Board License and leaving high school to work in a salon. At the time, my passion was to become a beautician because I loved the idea of the cosmetology industry, I embellished this major as my only career I’ll ever have. After encountering the atmosphere of the salon setting, I quickly realized that this is not the career for me. Being clumsy, haphazard, not precise enough, being a beautician (specializing in haircutting and coloring) is not my forte. After encountering haircutting disasters, and bad color jobs, I quickly realized I needed either a new goal in the cosmetology field, or to pick a whole new major in general. Through thorough analysis, and already acquired and assumed knowledge, I revealed the complexity of this occupation. The workload in this industry in reliant on what the client want, the client can range from an individual who hired you for their wedding, or your client can be someone who recently died and needs to be prepped for the open casket funeral. Clients may have a specific look planned out and expect you to follow the pictorial precisely, or the client may not have any idea and rely on the artist's expertise to concoct a unique and trendy look that is flattering. The hours and days can fluctuate by the client’s request or by the artist’s preference. Other main attributes of this career include, sanitizing, infection control, and working up close to the general public. To become a makeup artist, the cosmetology license is needed to be obtained first, this require 1,500 hours in a cosmetology institute and passing both the written and practical examination. Further education can be achieved after examination, finding secondary cosmetology institutes to achieve the extended education needed can be a crucial aspect to have a lucrative …show more content…
Generally, this occupation is self employed, this leaves the benefits, insurance, and compensation left up to the individual. This career also has high annual openings and can turn out to be a fast paced occupation.
