Gender Discrimination in the Workplace
In recent years, Apple promise to work harder to increase the workplace diversity. Nevertheless, a diversity report from the company shows the company is still dominated by male. 68 percent of Apple’s employees around the globe are men. Only 32 percent of Apple’s global workers are female. The company’s female employees have made the complaint to Mic that they face harassment and discrimination in their workplaces after seeing their higher-ups did not respond to their complaints.
One of the female employees complained that her male colleague made jokes about an office intruder coming to rape everyone. The employees will feel not safe at a company that allows men to make rape jokes publicly. Besides, Apple treats women and men differently in leadership positions. Another female employee said that she was never given the opportunity to apply for two advanced positioned despite she has a higher qualification than the one prescribed. The purpose of enhanced training is to improve leadership and management skills of the managers to lead their employees in a fair way. For example, give feedback to every employee consistently, inspire and motivate them and provide career advancement opportunities to them. Also, the training will allow managers to more understand the business benefits gained from gender equality and the legal issues associated with workplace sexism. Moreover, Apple also takes necessary steps to improve the courses in Apple University. The courses are provided as a way to educate managers and employees about Apple’s business culture and workplace values and ethics. Nonetheless, Apple refused to make a further discussion about what was done in these specific cases om order to respect for employee privacy. Apple is committed to treating every employee equally, regardless of
