Animal Testing Persuasive Essay

Decent Essays
Just think for a second, if we don’t test on animals what are we going to test on? Of course, you might say that there are alternatives such as cell cultures in a petri dish or computer models that can recreate the function of several organs, but they cannot provide the answers that animal research can. So what will it come to? Testing on humans? In a world where animal testing would have not existed, that same drug that would have killed a rat might actually kill a person. Besides, when it comes medical testing, animals are considered as a better research subject than us. Their lifespan is often shorter than ours, so scientists can study the effects that a drug can have on the long run or across several generations, which would take too long

Maybe one day technology will have advanced so far as to render animal testing unnecessary, which would be ideal, but that day is simply not today. However we must not be wanton or ruthless in our testing of animals, just as animal test subjects are necessary so are the ethical and moral policies that regulate animal testing. Scientific advancement should never rely on what is blatantly cruel and scientists should always strive to do as little harm or cause as little distress as possible to their test subjects. Animal testing can lead to great advancements in medical technology and it is our job to make sure that we take the comfort and well being of the animals being tested into account. After all, to anthropomorphize for a moment, isn’t that the least we can do for the beings who are helping us treat all the diseases we are susceptible…

767,622 different types of animals were used in 2015, and even more in 2016. AAVS reported their annual statistics showing over the years how many animals have been used, and how much they have to suffer due to scientists using them. Animals shouldn’t be put through this kind of conditions, so they shouldn’t be used for scientific testing, because it’s inhumane, it leads to nowhere, and it’s not even accurate. Out of that 8% that pass the human trial, half of them will need to be re- labeled because of side effects that showed in the human test, but not the animal. III. According to the Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal, the United States uses about 12 million animals every year making it the biggest conductor of animal experimentation in the world. Scientists and many companies believe that testing their products on animals save humans from being harmed if the product is toxic.
