It cost a lot of money because of all the supplies to take care of the animals. First you have to get cages, food, and water. Then you have to get the animal itself. Most of the time, the animals don’t get the proper nutrition and the test fails so the people have to get new animals which cost a fortune. Most of the time, scientists will get larger animals and larger animals cost more money. The reason why they get bigger animals are because their bodies are more like humans-more complex. A rabbit usually costs about $20, rats costs $10, and hamsters cost about $10 to $15. In all, if you bought all of them it would cost in total about $1,200 which is basically just money down the drain because most likely the animals will not survive the test (Unfortunately). “It the budget for the supplies of animals, their food, and water is around $2,500 dollars a year, which is paid by taxpayers in that specific state.” (www.procon.com) Also you have to pay for the equipment and supplies for the tests and animals.
