Monsters We Created: Animal Testing

Monsters We Created - Animal Testing Universally, animal testing has a famous reputation known for things like medicinal production and (mainly) cosmetic purposes; however, while these experiments may make humans look more beautiful and attractive, the animals’ treatment in these experiments looks horribly ugly in comparison. People have disputed the controversy of animal testing for many years, mainly questioning the morals of animal experimentation or trying to justify it. For the most part, advancing into animal testing has shown itself as a great mistake for humanity and continues to cause unnecessary animal suffering. New technologies offer many alternatives to animal testing and after all these years, we should begin trying these methods …show more content…
This quote explains animal testing perfectly; “Many cosmetic companies test their new products and ingredients by forcing rabbits, hamsters, and mice, among others, to endure horrific practices such as breathing in poisonous fumes or having lethal chemicals poured into their eyes and rubbed into their skin”(Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). Many supporters of animal testing will argue that it can have positive outcomes, however, humanity uses it in vain ways. This makes it especially wrong because humans are treating animals cruelly and inhumanely mostly to look attractive. Continuing on about cosmetic testing on animals: “Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice and does not provide the most reliable results regarding the safety, performance, or possible reactions that cosmetic products or ingredients could have in a person” (Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). The reason to continue these means of testing on animals proves to be no longer relevant because easier and more reliable ways of testing do indeed exist. Also, an animal will never be a more reliable source than humans because each person reacts differently to cosmetics, making animal testing wrong by moral standards. Knowing this, testing cosmetics on animals is a very selfish thing for humanity to do and just proves that testing on …show more content…
This quote describes such benefits: “Because scientists experimented with research animals, vaccines were developed, new medical and surgical techniques were perfected, diseases were cured, extending our lives and alleviating incalculable amounts of human suffering” (Wesley J. Smith, The Grim Good of Animal Research). People’s lives improved greatly because of medicine through these experiments. The only cost of this experimentation included many animals’ lives; however, it did save human lives, for these animals’ had not died without a cause. Yet, the amount of time and money this testing accounted for did not equal out with the lives saved: “Animal experiments prolong the suffering of people waiting for effective cures by misleading experimenters and squandering precious money, time, and resources that could have been spent on human-relevant research” (Wesley J. Smith, The Grim Good of Animal Research). Animal research tends to take a large amount of time, money, and other resources due to the fact that it takes trials to confirm and reconfirm the results. Lifesaving drugs and medication could come out even faster if scientists tested on humans rather than animals because of the difference in human and animal body chemistry. Considering this, animal testing cannot be justified by the fact that it has saved many human

Testing cosmetics on animals is a very controversial issue that has grown over the past years. I believe that cosmetic animal testing is wrong and should be banned because it is cruel, inaccurate, not very reliable, and has been proven to be unnecessary. Approximately 200,000 animals will suffer and die every year for cosmetics around the world. We as a whole have all decided that this is not necessary which is why we stopped making testing on animal cosmetics something that had to be done. Companies still continue to do it.…

According to Troy Seidle a pole concluded that, “88 percent of us believe animal testing causes pain and suffering to animals and that such suffering just for cosmetics isn’t worth it, especially when safe ingredients are already available,”(Seidle). Considering that most people don’t feel the need to buy products with newly tested ingredients, why should companies continue to do that it is not an absolutely necessary practice. There are thousands of chemicals out there that have already gone through the process of being tested so it wouldn’t be like companies couldn’t make new products, they could make many. Yes companies want to make money by selling newly improved products but that is not going to make people want to buy products that aren’t apart of their daily use. Gregory Mone states that animal testing is a long and expensive process and can take several years and use up millions of dollars to carry out, (Mone).…

Luckily, you don’t have to because of the animal testing that makes sure there is no potentially harmful ingredients in your cosmetics. Although we don’t have to worry about this today, people did before animal testing was so huge. When it comes to whether animals should be used in animal testing, the problem that arises with this is the moral ethics that come with animal testing. Because of these morals, I decided that using animals for testing is wrong. This paper will give reasons why using animals is wrong and ways it can be changed to prevent animals from being used by research laboratories in companies just to see how humans might benefit from the process used in testing. Why animals are used in testing, from a scientist’s perspective the reasons for animals being used in testing is because since animals have no cognitive ability and no moral judgement like humans do, then it is acceptable to conduct experiments on them. Another example is because the requirement…

It is unacceptable behaviour from people in our modern world today. Even though some animals are needed for medical research for the tests that give us reliable results, cosmetic research is not necessary. By not in this day and age we should know what chemicals people can work with and what chemicals we cannot. We have enough cosmetic products and brands, it is not necessary for cosmetic researchers to go on and test on animals. Animals should have similar rights as people, and we need to learn to share our planet with them.…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…
