Introduction For my paper I will be using the “Miss Representation” documentary as my artifact to talk about the misrepresentation of gender roles in politics, while applying the “role congruity theory” .I hope that by the end of my paper my audience will have a better understanding of how the mainstream media manipulates women in leadership roles.
First lets discuss the artifact, Miss Representation. “Miss Representation is a 2011 American documentary film written, directed, and produced by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. It explores how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging portrayals of women.” (Wikipedia. I chose this artifact because it came across to me as the type of artifact that focused on both the mainstream media and gender politics. After watching the documentary I was able to understand how difficult it is for those who have now or ever ran for a leadership roll especially as President of the Unites States. This documentary makes you think about how the worldviews women and where women stand in society. Take a look at our current politicians Hilary Clinton and Carly Fiorina; these two women have been used as puppets for the media just to make them seem inferior for their gender. It takes strong women to stand out in the media and to not let it get them down when they are trying to show other women how to be a voice…
