Pay-per-click advertisements are the option that many businesses are choosing to push their name and product to the consumer. Quick, efficient, and a high volume of site visitors, are the words that would describe this new phenomenon. If you are a user of the internet, you are sure to have crossed paths with one on your search engine, such as Yahoo, Google, Bing, etc. These advertisers can end up paying big money for your eyes to see and click on their website, but the hope is that you are going to use their service or buy their product. Many wonder, is this how advertising has always been done? Moreover, how did this type of advertising get its start in the now “bidding war” of vying for the top of the search engine page? The answer to the above questions can almost be summed up with saying “if there is a way to make money, it will be found”. Henceforth, the pay-per-click ad was born in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. The internet during these years was really taking the world by storm, and more and more families where getting connected to the world wide web. I found it interesting that Yahoo was actually ahead of the game where pay-per-click ads are concerned, being that they went ahead and converged services with GoTo.com in 1998. Google did not make its decision to use such a product until 1999 (SEO Logistics 2013).
