To me, being a nurse is more than a job or career. It is a continuous learning process that I am willing to take on each day, to embrace life changing events and miracles. Touching the lives of others whether the help is gratitude or remains unnoticed, the pride I hold in saying “I’m going to be a nurse” is unmeasurable. Nursing is more than a profession of integrity and compassion; it’s a privilege to be responsible for someone else. My pursue in nursing, first initiated when I was young and my grandfather had a stroke. Soon after graduating high school, I became a medical assistant, which gave me more experience in the actual medical field and lastly the great demand of nurses in the field. The first time I truly touched a person’s life, was the surprisingly fulfilling. A feeling of accomplishment and self-worth spread throughout my body. After high school I got my MA certification and started working at a doctor’s office. Now that’s when the real learning experience happened. Being able to understand what is causing the problem and explain the reason to the patients and helping them feel better. My interest in nursing became more persistent when I started working at a clinic with special needs kids. For example, I had a patient came in, with irritation due to her g-button, we had to remove the button and replace with new, since button was malfunctioning. Now I don’t know how these doctors become doctors without knowing how to do these kind of things, but point being, I went in removed old one and replaced with new button. To see the facial expression of both parents and patient was awesome, to know I just lifted a concern for mom and eased the patient discomfort was rewarding. Being able to do something as career, that not only helps provide for my family but I truly love doing, and will always have a job is a blessing
