Those chemicals that we negligently throw out could end up harming our ecosystem. According SFGate.com, “The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency names phosphorus, nitrogen, ammonia and chemicals grouped under the term "Volatile Organic Compounds" as the worst environmental hazards in household cleaners” (Davis). To determine what the potential damage may be caused on plants, my partner Sam and I studied the growth and development of plants when exposed to harsh cleaning chemicals. I hypothesize that the chemicals given to the plants will affect the plant negatively and halt their growth, eventually leading them to die. Over the course of a little under three weeks, we watered plants with either cleaning products or water. As we progressed in our experiment, my partner and I recorded the effects caused on each…

For the reactive flash volatilization (RFV) process based on the knowledge that the catalyst bed is preheated to high temperature, pyrolysis of the heated cellulose particles on the surface of the bed is expected to be fast enough that it will not be a rate-limiting step. Hence, the kinetics of the RFV of cellulose reduces to gasification of the produced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on and in the catalyst bed. To represent the RFV of the VOCs from flash pyrolysis of cellulose, Aspen Plus…

air quality is pests. Dust mites and fragments of cockroaches are part of common household dust. Dust is easily disturbed by even the smallest movement, causing it to float in the air until it is inhaled or lands on another surface. Dust mites live off the dead organic material found in dust and contain an enzyme that, when in contact with humans, causes allergic reactions. Dust mites do not bite humans. Similarly, cockroaches contain a protein that initiates allergic reactions…

It is no secret that we are on the verge of making both technological and biological progress. Imagine a scenario in which you were fighting for your country or perhaps your family and unfortunately you lost your arm, your leg, or even part of your face. Today, we see these losses as needing a prosthetic, which is a device that is made from plastic or metal that takes the place of the body part that was lost in order for you to maintain a proper functionality within society. I think a better…

Abstract- this paper presents OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diodes). How they work, what they are prepared of, and different policies to manufacture them with layers thicknesses, and the many functions for them. OLEDs function as both light source and color array at the same time; they are used to generate digital displays in devices. Due to their early stage of improvement, they normally release fewer lights per unit area than inorganic solid-state based LED point-light sources.…

Arsenic exists in the environment in many different forms, each of those forms having different chemical abilities that have the potential to influence human health (Lynch, 2014). Arsenic has the potential to impact human health and has been studied over the centuries (Lynch, 2014). The research that has been studied has determined that the chemical form of arsenic found in food products characterizes over 20 different arsenic species (Lynch, 2014). The focus on organic and inorganic arsenic has…

In a hydrothermal vent, life would have a continuous energy source and an abundance of biologically important elements. It is believed that hydrothermal vents during Archean Earth are nearly identical to modern hydrothermal vents (Baross and Hoffman, 1985). As a result, hydrothermal vents would be able to provide a continuous energy source to the first cells, protocells because modern hydrothermal vents are able to generate a continuous source of energy. In addition, it is believed that…

Extraction was the main method of removing compounds from the sample. The component X was removed from the sample by first adding the organic solvent dichloromethane to the test tube. After aggravation, the component X dissolved into the solvent. Since components Y and Z were insoluble in the organic solvent they remained as solids. The test tube was then placed into a centrifuge and ran for thirty seconds. By doing so, the unsettled solid were forced to accumulate at the bottom of the test…
