In Connecticut, they are found mostly in hayfields. Only three state wildlife management areas have bobolink habitats; they are Topsmead State Forest in Litchfield, Pomfret Audubon in Pomfret, and Storrs. Bobolinks have been shot as agricultural pests in the southern United States, trapped and sold as pets in Argentina, and collected as food in Jamaica. The species is not as abundant as it was several decades ago primarily because of changing land-use practices- especially the decline of meadows and hay fields. The Bobolink's tenacity and adaptability, however, should continue to serve it well. Describe their habitat - Bobolinks need a habitat that provides food, water and shelter. Also, they depend on grasslands habitats like hayfields and meadows. When they migrate, they dwell in marshes. Original prime breeding areas were damp meadows and natural prairies with dense growth of grass and weeds and a few low bushes. Most Bobolinks in the Eastern United States nest in hayfields. Bobolinks eat weed seeds, insect larvae, adult insects, spiders, and other arachnids. They feed their protein-dependent nestlings with invertebrates exclusively. They nest mid to late May, and chicks born in early/mid June. Within the male’s territory, the female chooses a nest site on the ground, which is usually on wet soil at the base of large nonwoody plants like meadow rue, golden alexander, or clover. 3-7 eggs Number of Broods: 1-2 broods Egg Length: 0.8-0.9 in (2-2.3 cm) Egg Width: 0.6-0…

I have…
