Design and implementation of an Electronic system for identification of rebars in reinforced concrete. Abstract- In this paper non-destructive method is implemented in which magnetic self-designed sensor is used to detect position of rebar in reinforced concrete. During the renovation of old buildings it is necessary to locate rebar accurately to avoid damages in construction. This is achieved by Magnetic sensor which is made up of E-shaped core also primary and secondary windings. Due to presence of rebar output of sensor varies. Rotary encoder is used to measure distance between rebar. Display is used to display results. This is portable device that you have to move on wall or column for desired output. Keywords: Arduino mega, Rotary encoder, Magnetic sensor, SD Card module. I. INTRODUCTION To inspect the rebar using ant non-destructive method has been a challenging task, especially since they are embedded in prestressed concrete. Visual inspection is not efficient and useful method as it fails to locate rebar accurately. Magnetic sensor used for locating reinforcing steel present within in concrete work on the principle that the steel affects the alternating magnetic field. So this paper discusses development of system by utilizing maximum possible information from magnetic effect on rebar. A…
As can be seen, multicem concrete showed resistance below the limit for structural lightweight concrete, which can be classified so as insulating concretes or moderate resistance. However, according to Radonjanin, Malesev, Marinkovic and Al Malty (2013), concrete made from 100% recycled coarse aggregate can achieve high compressive strength since large amount of cement to be added, which is therefore not an economical proposition. Still according to the author, concrete made with 50% or 100% of…
All the dimensions and cross-section for the beam were same. They were 2,200mm in length ,250 mm in width and 350mm in height as shown in Fig. 1.300mm splice length (minimum as per ACI) was chosen. Each beam was reinforced with 20M steel rebar. GFRP and CFRP were used for the wrapping at the point of the splice. One layer of U-shaped FRP sheet was used with 950 mm. The weights of GFRP and CFRP were 430 g/m2 and 900 g/m2 . The compressive strength of concrete was obtained by testing the 100 *200…
Chapter 3: Tests and Implementation. The self compacting geopolymer concrete should possess following properties: 1. Flow ability: It is the property of fresh concrete mix to flow and fully fill complex formwork under an action of its self weight. Slump flow test is performed to check flow ability of concrete. 2. Viscosity: It is the property of concrete to resist flow at a glance when it started. Low viscosity concrete will flow quickly but for a short duration while high viscosity concrete…
Perdikaris and Romeo (1995) also found in their work that the size is the main element of the concrete strength, as in their study they concluded that a moderate size is different to be broken than large size. Mather and Darwin (1976, 1977) identified that the medium size is the more strengthen and durable concrete type. Burnet and wolsier (1989) indicated that building made of concrete materials always be considered as strong and valid as the materials used in it, would be assumed and reassured…
1.0 Introduction A wire is defined as a single, flexible strand or rod of metal which is typically cylindrically-shaped. The core applications of wire, both single- or multi-stranded wire, are to withstand or carry mechanical loads in construction sector, whereas in electrical and electronic field are used to transmit electricity and telecommunications signals. For examples, from view of construction, wires are either braided or fixated together to form a bundle of strands, namely…
Construction of the Concrete Roof of the Assembly Hall The University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign Assembly Hall has been the home of the Illini men’s basketball team for over half a century and has been one of the greatest engineering and architectural feats on campus ever since its creation over half a century ago. Beginning on May 25, 1959, construction of the Assembly Hall was carried out by structural engineers Othmar Ammann and Charles Whitney, general contractor Felmley-Dickerson Co.,…
If you want to realize the best return on your investment in asphalt pavement, it is essential that you keep it maintained. One of the most critical elements of an effective maintenance program is crack repair. Why Is Crack Repair So Vital? Asphalt pavement relies on a solid, stable foundation for strength and resiliency. If the foundation becomes eroded or destabilized, the pavement can begin to sag under its own weight. Every vehicle that passes over the weakened area causes additional…
1.1 What is a composite material? Composite materials are materials in which a homogenous matrix is reinforced by a stronger and stiffer constituent that is usually fibrous but may have a particulate or other shape (web.mit.edu). They are produced when two or more materials or phases are used together to give a combination of properties that cannot be attained otherwise. For example steel reinforced concrete, plywood and fibre glass. 1.2 What is a Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC)? CMCs are a…
Large-scale and industrial construction projects require a unique blend of materials, quite different from those used in home construction. One of these is pre-cast concrete components such as stairways, beams, floors and walls. These elements lend structural integrity, fire safety and insulation benefits. For companies that transport these heavy construction materials, great care must be taken to ensure they arrive at their destination in a timely, safe, and efficient manner. Weight Limits…
