“Now, today I will be teaching you all about the basics of grappling. We have some grappling hooks for all of you and we will begin to take turns scaling this large wall one at a time.” Goodfellow showed us how the hooks worked. They were made from heavy iron and braided fiber rope. We had to twirl them through the air to launch them up to the top of the wall. Then we had to place our feet against it and start climbing up. It took a few practices, but I began to pick up on it pretty quickly. "No rush guys, take your time to get used to how the rope feels." We practiced This back and forth for little over an hour until Goodfellow blew his whistle. "Okay everyone, good job. I saw some real progress here. But now we are gonna step it up a little." Goodfellow pulled out a stopwatch from his pocket gave a sharky grin. "We are gonna play a game now." He announced. "I want you all to get with your partners and scale the wall at the same time. The first person to scale the wall and reach the top will get an immediate "a" for the day. The loser gets a fail." We all looked at each other in disbelief. Is he really serious? How can he do that. "Oh and one more thing." Good fellow added. "You have to do it all within a minute." What!? I thought. That's impossible. How can he be this crazy on our first day. "You two start first!" He shouted at Becky and her partner. We all watched as Becky and her partner stepped up to the bottom of the wall. They readied their grappling hooks and glanced…

I felt like the one thing I had worked so hard to accomplish was once again taken away. Similar with The Pact when Sam…

Whoever came up with that idea, I think he/she wasted time. You could always jump over that board or similar. Even when I was reading more about it, it said that they used to be put in a sack or bag, tied close to their neck. So, that way they were still able to cuddle somehow, but that was it. Again, to me this is nonsense, but it is part of history, it is good to know all this and how we improved over the time. I am in Social Service Worker- Gerontology program and I think that Human…

discomfort. Once, after hitting my third consecutive drive behind a tree on a cold, fall day, I felt the urge to pick up the ball in defeat; however, instead of giving up, I found a thin gap between the tree’s branches, took my club, and scrambled my way to a par. Inventively taking advantage of the opportunities in front of me taught me to view life through a new lens. It was at this moment that the golf course became a sanctuary, one where I could be alone and wrestle with adolescence. It…
