The game of golf is almost more mental than it is physical. Having the ability to control one’s thoughts and emotions can turn good players into great ones. Many players learn how to play the game physically, but cannot ever make a leap towards better golf due to their actions and thoughts on the course. When playing bad, all it may take is a change in mindset or attitude to get one back on track. Sometimes it’s a little change in swing thought that will turn one’s round around.…
These battles would continue, and there is no compelling evidence at who emerged a greater golfer. Today, Jack Nicklaus has been involved in the constructing of 298 golf courses worldwide, which have hosted over 900 professional events (“Golf Course Design,” 2016). His contribution to continuing to grow American Golf exemplifies his ability to illuminate. To conclude, through his creation of an illustrious golfing career, Jack Nicklaus innovated golf and illuminated the world.…
The Midnight Golf Program has changed my life. You do not see many teenagers from African-American communities golfing. Midnight Golf is gradually but surely changing this, and I am one of the many products of our success story. The beginning to one’s personal success is being well-rounded. This secret society program instilled positive experiences and qualities into me throughout the year.…
On Veterans Day 2014, I asked my dad if we could play a round of golf. Since I was a baseball fanatic at the timen, my dad was surprised by my question, but nevertheless he set up a round of golf for us. When I hit a ball off the first tee, I knew I had found a new, strong passion. Although my swing was horrible, I was determined to practice golf everyday to become better. I told my mom about my exhilarating experience on the golf course later that night, and I slowly began to realize that I loved golf more than baseball for its independent aspects, unique serenity, exquisite views, and diverse challenges.…
Seeing my peers play tennis got me interested to join and although I was mediocre at first, I improved by applying my coach and friends’ advice. There were times I wanted to quit because I plateaued, but I stayed. I fell in love with my team because I finally found my place of belonging. I could not let my family down after all of their encouragement. After several practices filled with sweat and pain, I made it to varsity.…
Golf is full of failure. I would get so mad when I couldn’t control the trajectory or end result of my shots. It was not uncommon for me to quit the round. As I matured, I came to realize that the failures gave me a chance to learn. Practicing a shot over and over again, I came to understand why each shot differed from my expectations.…
The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach.…
I am currently a baseball player for Lower Columbia College where I am also pursuing a general education AA with the expectation of transferring to a four-year college or university in fall of 2016. I signed with the Red Devils in 2014 while still in high school, receiving a scholarship to play for them during my college freshman and sophomore years. Although I originally planned on majoring in education to teach math and science at the middle and high school levels, my interests have shifted to focus on sports therapy/physical therapy due to my involvement in sports. I have been playing baseball since I was seven (7) years old, dedicating a large percentage of my time and energy to be the best player possible. Because I was always on the…
I was at the baseball field and it was a tuesday that night. It was cloudy with a chance of rain. I was in the dugout out and we just got done with taking grounder.…
I was standing by myself on the bright green tennis court, gripping my racket. Groups of other tennis players were leaning against the chain link fence, waiting, like me, for tryouts to begin. Listening intently to the conversation going on around me, I was trying to get absorbed into what was going on. After what felt like forever, but in reality was only minutes a friend of mine and returning player walked over to me. Having not seen each other in a month or so we both greeted each other enthusiastically.…
This added pressure, on the other hand, made me want to practice all the time in order to improve myself and contribute to the team as much as possible. I would stay late after practice, tag along with the older golfers and play with them, and I would also ask the local…
I was playing lacrosse on a warm spring day in Glen Ellyn. I could feel my adrenaline spike, accompanied by my heart beating out of my chest. We finally had the ball on our side. The first place team that happened to be our school’s arch nemesis, had selfishly kept the ball to themselves so far. Every second we had possession was precious as we knew the opportunities to score would be few.…
My critic has always been my mom. She had helped me by restricting my leisure time on a routine basis and setting a time limit on my studies which made me develop a habit of completing my schoolwork in a timely manner. One of my most valued aspirations is to become a professional golfer in the PGA. I was always interested in a variety of sports, but especially golf and basketball. However, as I got older, my interest in golf started to grow.…
Where can lush fairways, meticulously carved acres of beautiful pine, and oak trees be seen? A golf course presents an opportunity to see the beauty of nature, in a calming, and enlightened environment, while giving a competitor of any age or skill level a challenging, but exciting experience. Golf is perhaps the most intriguing, deep-seated game due to its beautiful golf courses, intense preparation, and clear mindset. Firstly, a golf course is the centerpiece of the game, carved through thick forests, laying stunningly next to the ocean, or streaming through gaping valleys.…
If an activity does not make you break a sweat, or if it can be done while drinking and smoking, then it is not a sport.” Not only do golfers have carts to haul them and their gear around course, but they can participate in this activity with injuries unlike any genuine sport. Golfers also play while focusing on other things like social media while playing. Golf is clearly not a sport, it does not make you work hard, and it requires minimum levels of skill that anyone can possess.…
