Mark Cherry was a writer for the Golden Girls as well as a more recent show, Desperate Housewives in which Cherry used Blanche as the inspiration for the character Gabrielle, which was portrayed by Eva Longoria. Rose Nylund was portrayed by Betty White. The character migrated from a town in Minnesota called Saint Olaf. Rose was considered the blonde bimbo of the show, but she was extremely innocent, naïve and always believed that everyone had the best intention. Rose had a love for her home town, Saint Olaf and her deep Norwegian roots, always referencing home and her husband who passed away of a heart attack during sexual intercourse. Sophia Petrillo portrayed by Estelle Getty was the sharp tongue Sicilian mother. She lived in a nursing home that burnt down, called Shady Pines. She was the oldest in the house, and kept everyone on their toes with her quick witted humor. Sophia was the character that stuck up for the underdog. The sculptural portrait of Faustina the Elder is made of marble and was sculpted between the years of 140 and 160 A.D. She is a Roman piece by an unknown artist, and is housed in the Getty Villa.
