evolved from the Baroque period but after centuries of music development there is nothing wrong with sticking to the fundamentals that inspired musicians and composers for generations. In my Concerts Across Time paper I will be discussing the differences and similarities between the Counting Crows and the great Antonio Vivaldi. The Counting Crows always elicit a lot of emotion from their lyrics and their fans. I have never had the pleasure of attending one of their concerts, but I regularly listen to their live albums. One concert I would have loved to have attended was in Paris, France in 1994 at Élysée Montmartre (Fitzairn). As a fan, I would say the one of the best part of the Counting Crows are that they experiment lyrically. Adam Duritz, the lead singer, always appears as he is letting the music and the emotions of the crowd decide what lyrics flow out of him. If you enjoy singing along with your favorite song you will probably be out of luck. You just have to stand there, listen, and enjoy the poetry that is amplifying across the crowd. For example the song Round…

Once again, Salinger wasn’t oblivious to the meanings behind each character’s name. In fact, symbolism plays a part in the character Sybil Carpenter. “Sybil, bright with innocence but already tarnishing, symbolizes for Seymour the human condition: like the sibyls of old, she is the unconscious oracle through whom the prophecy is revealed, the instrument of truth” (Lane). A sibyl is defined as “a woman in ancient times supposed to utter the oracles and prophecies of a god” (“sibyl”). It is…

Part of the reason that the Pearl of Great Price is so great at preparing people for making further covenants in the temple is because it talks so much about sacrifice. In this paper, I will show was sacrifice means in the Lord’s eyes and how Adam and Eve’s sacrificial behaviors can be applied to other righteous people in the Pearl of Great Price, as well as present day. I will also show the qualifications and blessings of true sacrifice, as well as Satan’s counterfeits for sacrifice,…

Abraham by Hrotsvitha and a Play for Representing Adam, author unknown are both similar and different to one another in a variety of ways. Adam is directly based on the Bible text, while Abraham has references to God and the Bible, but takes place in its own time and place. Each are effective of communicating the messages they intend to in their own way, in construction, in their use of Representatio, and in the use of dialogue, staging, humor, wordplay, metaphor and characterization. This is very similar the Bibles description of how “God planted all kinds of beautiful trees that grow there and produce good fruit" (Genesis 2.9). Both appear to be a paradise. They are lush, green environments filled with vegetation. On both microcosms, fruit seems to be abundant. The abundance is evident in the novel when Golding describes a…

Bowen’s Family Systems theory (BFST) attempts to explain human behavior as it relates to family dynamics and its complex interconnections. Reading Genesis chapters one through four, I identified four of eight BFST concepts that can be applied to “The First Family”: (a) triangles concept, (b) nuclear family concept, (c) emotional cutoff, and (d) sibling position. According to BFST, the triangle concept refers to three individuals that are in some way connected to each other, be it biological…

though these cultures are hugely different they have uncanny similarities and very understandable differences which proves that humans are connected by nature. The first thing that comes to mind when reading these two stories is “What is with the fascination with trees.” It kind of makes sense in the fact that the people from the past and the present are fascinated by trees. In the Judeo-Christian Creation Story trees are power things that posses powers such as the Tree of Knowledge of which…

the 1970s heavily effected the way that Milton’s work was looked at and brought upon new interpretations of the poem. Sometimes the historical context in which Milton was writing is lost on critics and they read the text in terms of events going on today rather than when Milton was writing. A lot of the criticism draws from the relationship between Adam and Eve, and whether or not it supports a strong…
