A Summary Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

Improved Essays
The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is one of the oldest and best known in the West. The power that this story has comes not just from the Bible, but also from its depiction of evil, of people 's impulses, and of its presentiation of temptation. In the Bible the Garden of Eden is described as perfect. Because the serpent tempted Eve to want to be more perfect, humans fell and became imperfect. This story is now often used in modern advertising, which also promises improvements in one’s life in a few different categories, such as happiness beauty, or success--all through the use of some external object. The story also leaves misogynistic culture behind, because of how Eve was blamed for tempting Adam and causing his fall. In different advertisements, the story of Adam and Eve is used to sell a variety of products that want to show a freedom of authority.

The two ads have many similarities, the only difference is how the two people portraying Adam and Eve are in different positions. This is a primary example of sex in today’s advertisement. Unlike other subtle advertising that require the works of our imagination, this advertising jumps straight to the point. These ads purposely get you to think of two things: sex and their products. Our brains have been hard-wired for billions of years to transform everything into sex. The marketers use this fact to target their customers.…

The literary form and genre of the book of Genesis is prose: biblical and historical narrative. Biblical narratives in Genesis show that “God is active in His world” and these narratives typically “chose certain events to reveal God.” For instance, this element is apparent when the Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, granting her the promise of descendants (Gen 16:10). In the same manner, this element is reinforced in subsequent chapters (Gen 17:19; 18:10). In describing this book, it is significant to note that most of the characters in the narrative are flawed.…

The advertisement invokes curiosity and uses sexual innuendos to tempt the viewer into buying the Altoid mints. The words written across the ad,”First time?”, implies two things; firstly that the two people in the ad are both trying Altoids for the first time and a hidden secondary element implying that the couple are attempting their first act of sexual intercourse. The text itself is a deep shade of red, and stands out strongly against the dimmer background of the advertisement, drawing our attention to it. The text also has a white underline to it so as to be calming and more aesthetically pleasing. The color also acts as a counterbalance to the intense red color and depicts the vibrant and pure color of the mints.…

The beer ad conveys that men have to possess only male products for being real men. Also, another ad of deodorant portrays men are attractive and women always desire men. As a woman, I think most advertisements are based on masculinity. Even though the products are for women, many advertisements describe that women use the products for attracting men. The society unconsciously stresses male superiority which has been a long time ago.…

In reading the introduction and first two chapters of this text, I realized that much of what was discussed, encompassed thoughts that I’ve both previously and presently have. Brooks’ accordingly introduces the reader to Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik’s argument in that the two accounts of creation in Genesis represent the two opposing sides of our nature: Adam I and Adam II. Following this, the text describes Adam I as being the “career-oriented” and “ambiguous side of our nature,” wherein reading this, I instantly felt disconnect to this “side.” Admittedly, I assumed that this wasn’t a “good thing” as based on my experiences, people tend to appreciate and value those that live by an “inverse logic.” The first chapter discussed the shift of social values in America from “self-effacement” to “self-promotion.”…

The story of Cain and Abel played a major part in the theme of East of Eden. The biblical tale of brotherhood jealousy was used to emulate the relationships between the “C-Characters” and the “A-Characters”. The story of Cain and Abel depicted two brothers fighting for the affection of God, which ends with Abel being murdered by Cain. Steinbeck uses this story to create the narrative that ends up pitting the “C-Characters” against the “A-Characters”, in which the A-Characters are usually on the receiving end of the abuse. Though the parallels drawn from the story of Cain and Abel are distinct, the characters in the story are not as one dimensional as Cain and Abel.…

In the Article “Jesus is A Brand of Jeans”, Jean Kilbourne talks about how advertisements encourage people to buy their products, but in order to do this people use tactics that can be bad because of the way that they try to get people to buy these products. When they advertise these products they usually try to make the product look more important than actual people, or the people who advertise the product try to make everyone think that we need the product for us to be happy. The most dangerous part about advertisements is that they can flourish addictions because the company will try to get us to try that product even if it can harm many people and they won't show people what has happened to the many people that have suffered from their product. When Companies try and get people to use their product or in some cases keep using their product, the company will try to get a specific age group to use their products by having people in that specific age group be in that ad so people that age will be able to relate to it even though the product may be harmful, Marlboro has people within the ages of 18-21 be in the ad where people are enjoying themselves by doing many things some include doing something that you never thought would be possible, and being with an intimate other.…

The Calvin Klein Jean ad shows a half-naked man draped over half-naked women both of the oiled up and twisting around each other, conveys an implied steamy twosome. Calvin Klein is known for their quality of clothing and their high status on the fashion runway. In the ads, they are known for their edginess. They are not shy about going out of the norms when it comes to making their adverts. It all started in 1980 with the Brooke Shields (a 15 year old girl) advert in 1980, with a punch line "Nothing comes between me and my class" One would argue that even though the ad is targeting a younger demographic there still needs to be a sense of responsiveness towards proper ethics.…

These are examples of creative marketing because the situation is vaguely represented; one can decide the meaning behind the scenes, which is a success on the author's part. Pathos is also exemplified through the scenes of dancing and partying because one can feel the longing for freedom and envy the life of the people in the commercial. The…

In an essay that I read titled the “ Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt” by Jean Kilbourne, she also expresses herself in her essay on how women are being treated in advertisements. However, she also specifies how ads can be misinterpreted by viewers, in this case women. In her essay she talks about a similar advertisement to the Axe shower Gel. The advertisement she informs about is the Old Spice deodorant ad. In this advertisement there is a man who is on top of a woman, the advertisement has the word “NO” in big bold font.…

Guilty Not Guilty Found in the November 2017 issue of InStyle magazine, Gucci Guilty, by Gucci, sells the basic eurocentric sex appeal to women if you buy this perfume. The advertisers use various visual techniques to suggest that it’s okay to bide into your deepest desire and note feel guilty about doing it. This appeal targets women who want a more entertaining sex life. Based where I found this ad, this magazine is often read by 25 years old and above which makes the ad semi-effective. Based on Jack Solomon’s Master of Desire we see how American Advertising uses ample ways to persuade the consumer to buy the product they are trying to sell.…
