Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To Long Island

Improved Essays
Paranoid that one of us would disappear at the airport, my mother kept a close eye on us, for us kids though, it’s a blast being in a new place, seeing different sights and hearing different accents. This the first time my parents had taken all five of us kids overseas.
My aunt and uncle, who had been planning this trip for weeks, met us at the airport, thereafter we headed to Long Island. An hour and a half later we arrived at Paul and Shauna. They welcomed us so warmly, moving out of their house to provide enough room for us and showed us around long island. They treated us as if we were family, despite the fact that we had never met them before. Looking back, what stood out was how hospitable Paul and Shauna were, even though we had never

The Patterson Bethel is responsible for audiovisual services and the Bible school of Gilead.
The classrooms for the Bible school of Gilead were interesting; they have ancient papyrus manuscripts dating back to the second century B.C.E. The art department, which is responsible for all the visual aids in our publications and on Jw.org, was my favourite section of the tour. I love photography so seeing the degree of professionalism and the variety of equipment was inspirational. The joyful spirit everyone had, no matter what their job, was impressive.
The next day after a late breakfast we went to a warehouse in mount Ebow. Divided into four different sections by soundproof walls, the audiovisual team can therefore utilised the warehouse efficiently, working on multiple projects simultaneously. ‘No Photos’ said a sign as we walked onto the set of a new movie that will probably come out in a year or two. The reason for planning so far ahead is so that the translation teams can translate the films into multiple languages before the

The first of the three exhibits has interactive displays that explain how the organisation works around the globe. Running from one display to the next taking pictures everything was tiring. As I was about to finish taking photos of the last two displays my aunt came around the corner and said in scolding voice ‘ Josh where have you been, lunch is in thirty minutes and you’ve missed out on this whole section.’ Shocked, I realised I had become so absorbed in taking photos I was oblivious to the time. Rushing through one of the exhibits before we left, I barely had time to absorb any of the information. Once we had finished lunch we went for a brief tour of the last exhibit before heading

The New York Islanders returned home early Friday morning from a physical - and some would say lucky - 4-3 overtime win in Winnipeg just hours earlier. They had just finished a brutal road trip through three time zones across Canada and despite a 5-1 record to that point on the trip, had clearly not played their best. Not to mention, Nick Leddy, Matt Martin and, as we would learn Saturday, Calvin de Haan, would all be banged up to varying degrees. Martin and Leddy would be well enough to return to practice on Saturday in preparation for a huge ‘four-point swing’ game against the rival New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, an arena that, unbelievably, the Islanders had yet to visit this season but don’t mind at all. “It’s one of those games, almost like a home game when you come back.…

Due to my unpredictable work schedule I had to forgo the planned visit. I was slightly apprehensive about this, because I wanted a personal tour, which they offer on planned visits only. After signing the guest book in the front foyer of the museum, I was greeted by a young, knowledgeable volunteer who was more than happy to show me around. It was unusually slow that day so I had the volunteer’s undivided attention, as she did mine. She ushered me through answering every question and explaining each section in greater detail.…

My visit to the Nelson-Atkins museum was unlike any of my other visits to museums. First of all, I had a solid purpose for going and found myself paying much more attention to the intricacies of pieces I was viewing. Secondly, due to its sheer size, this museum had a wide variety of art from many different cultures and time periods, giving each hallway and room a different feel. Lastly, I felt much more educated about what I was viewing, when compared to previous experiences. I waited until the 8th of July to drive to Kansas City and thus had read most of content that would be covered over the semester.…

On a typical pleasant day of June, I heard someone coming through the hallway like a motorcycle passing by. The alpine white door opened and my brother picked me up into the air and said "We're moving!" I looked at him confused thinking about "Where are we go" or " Why are we leaving?" Moving from Queens to Long Island has taught me to become a better student; achieved more by particiapate in programs , and activities. Living in Elmhurst, Queen when I was younger, was really interesting.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

Anyways I was little and super excited that I was finally getting to meet Uncle Dick and Aunt Nell. I had gotten to talk to them on the phone a couple of times, but I was normally too shy to talk to them or say anything but hi and bye. But the trip came with a but. We were going to Moss Point, Mississippi to help people who lost their homes after hurricane Katrina, then we were going to go to Uncle Dick’s and Aunt Nell’s house for 1 night, then we were going to go to one of my relatives houses in Missouri, and then finally we were going home.…

I was completely clueless about museums and didn't know what to make of them. I went online and read a little about the museum and found out that it was one of the top five museums in the country because of its cultural diversity and integrated urban population. The personnel gave me a brief tour of the museum and told me the museum does not hold gallery collections, but their exhibition is based on a periodic basis. The museum was also filled with visitors and their families, all engaged in a series of photo shoots.…

Coming from a small town down south, opportunities were not always present. Living with a single mom of two there was never time for me to focus on what I wanted to do. The future never seemed this close, stepping into adulthood without a plan was disheartening. I slowly slipped into the wrong crowd and made decisions I wasn’t proud of. I left North Carolina in 2014 to live in Massachusetts with my dad and stepmom before continuing my descent down the rabbit hole.…

Each year, a pilgrimage to the Florida or Alabama gulf coast is a highly anticipated and enjoyed event for my family. In the beginning, it was just my wife and I. Man oh man, these trips were some of the most relaxing times that I can remember. Now, our yearly “beach fest” includes our two children, Kaylee and Garrett. While this is still a wonderful family event, I no longer use the phrase “relaxing”. Elbert Hubbard once said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who just had one”.…
