The Tampa Museum

My visit to the Tampa Museum of Art took place on the 4th of February 2017. The Tampa Museum of Art is located at the heart of downtown Tampa and is home to some of the most widely acclaimed creative works of art in the United States. I had never been to a museum prior to my visit. My visit to the Tampa museum was very informative and a rare occasion to learn about the beauty of art. I was pretty anxious from the beginning because I didn’t know where to start, but after speaking with a security personnel who gave me an overview of the sections, I sank right into this new world. I was completely clueless about museums and didn't know what to make of them. I went online and read a little about the museum and found out that it was one of the top five museums in the country because of its cultural diversity and integrated urban population. The personnel gave me a brief tour of the museum and told me the museum does not hold gallery collections, but their exhibition is based on a periodic basis. The museum was also filled with visitors and their families, all engaged in a series of photo shoots. Many people may consider a museum collection as very important in determining the quality of the museum but modern day assessment places more emphasis on its organization than the museum itself. The Tampa Museum of Art has over time re-branded itself through its collections to be one of the most outstanding museum in modern history. The museum is a site for antique and modern day works of art and has a long standing tradition that focuses on specific works of art. It shows how different works of art relate to a specific time period and heighlights the differences between the art works as they date back from ages. Taking a closer look at the museum’s exhibition, four different sections stood out that focus on the piece in relationship to the time period: classical, contemporary, sport and animal sections. On the day of my visit, there were a lot of visitors at the museum. There were also a lot of drawings and digital photos taken that kept visitors engaged throughout their visit into the museum. But above all, the was a focus based on the digital aspect of the museum experience. I also realized that people were very observant of other people as they go through the museum to take cues on what to do. I look at it like an effective learning tool for visitors because it was done very consciously. This form of interaction and the digital aspect of it provided an effective learning platform for visitors as opposed to writing, which might be hard to translate later. The museum exhibition is very unique in its public programs. The goal of the museum is championed through work of appreciation of well-known works of art over extended period of time connecting with societal changes. The Classical world with notable features that spans across centuries and geography is dated back to prehistoric sculpture as early as 3000BC from Cyprus, Greece and Italy, to Marble sculpture from the Roman empire as late as 5th century AD. The exhibition includes a particular fine assortment of painted pottery. Produced mainly in Greece and South Italy during the sixth, fifth and fourth centuries BC, these black figure and red-figure vases comprise of the noteworthy segment of the museum’s permanent collection of classical antiquities. Also included in the exhibition are important works of sculpture in the terracotta, stone and precious metal ages, as well as ancient coins, jewelry, and glass vessels. The tragic story it represents is pretty much reflected throughout the museum. The museum lacks any connection between time periods like classical, neo-classical and contemporary. It has nothing to tie back before the incident of April 19, 1995. Even though the Oklahoma museum was erected as a public experience, it lacks cultural impact in the aspect of framework design.
