This is an excellent research article on the Workplace Incivility (WPI). The research has proved that the Nurse leader’s role is very important in ensuring a healthy work environment. The author Patricia (2011), has quoted the definition of WPI as “low intensity deviant behavior with ambiguous intent to harm the target, in violation of workplace norms for mutual respect. Uncivil behaviors are characteristically rude and discourteous, displaying a lack of regard for others (Pearson, 1999). Usually the WPI research is focused on other businesses and non-healthcare organizations for quality improvement. The research is fairly new in the field of nursing. The two researchers, Hutton and Gates, have investigated, how the WPI among the staff causes low productivity and the economic loss of the organization. Their research was successful in proving the impact of incivility on productivity as well as the cost of lost productivity. WPI also impacts on the patient satisfaction. When the organization loses an efficient nurse because of the incivility, they lose the patient satisfaction, too. I have witnessed, how the organization loses money by losing a trained staff. According to Patricia (2011), “The Joint Commission launched a sentinel event alert in July 2008 stating that disruptive behaviors undermined a culture of safety and that zero-tolerance policies need to be implemented and enforced” (Joint Commission, 2010). When the nurse manager takes charge of resolving the conflict between the staff and take strong action against WPI, the staff nurses feels supported and appreciate that. The Code of Conduct listed in the article is an excellent tool for the nurse manager to use in order to maintain a disciplined and healthy working
