Why I Want To Pursue My Futures Scholarship

I was born on a cold and rainy night on September 28, 1997 in a small little village on the outskirts of town in Colombia. At the age of three, I migrated to America with my family for a better life. At the age of five, my father walked out on us. Left my mother with three children, no money and barely a place to live. Growing up, was tough. My father absence plunged hard on my family. My mother worked restless days and nights in order to provide roof above our heads. At school I struggled constantly trying to learn a whole new language. I was made fun of because I wasn’t able to pronounce properly. As a five year old, I felt as if life was tumbling down and there was no escape. My past experiences showed me that life is hard, however; it gave me the strength and built the person I am today. The independent, self-driven and dedicated to pursuit my dreams no matter how tough the road made get. Having the chance to go to Broward College for two years through the Broward Futures Scholarship would be an opportunity of a lifetime. The scholarship would give me the opportunity to further my education and help me get a degree in Business management. My future endeavor includes becoming the CEO of my own company. I want to start a company on a bathing suit line that helps and spreads the awareness of skin cancer as well changing society’s views of the unrealistic women bodies that the media portrays. I put this thoughts and dream into my DECA competition paper, wrote the 30 page fictional business plan, in which I placed 3rd place in the state of Florida. Which granted me a spot to compete at international. My dreams and aspirations will be further achieved by being granted this
