I was born on a hot summer day in New Hampshire, 1880. I was the oldest of 6. I grew up in a Christian home constantly surrounded by the love of God. My mother used to constantly cry about how lost the world was, and she especially felt a burden for the Japanese people. She used to tell us a story about a Japanese boy nicknamed Jo. He was a stowaway on a ship and ended up in America. In America, he came to know God and then went back to Japan to establish a Christian university. I would console her by saying, “Don’t cry, mother. And don’t worry. When I grow up, I will tell the world all about Jesus.” Even though I did say that, I knew I wasn’t exactly missionary material. I had a nasty temper and shot up like a firecracker. Whenever there was a quarrel, I was …show more content…
Unfortunately for me, this didn’t solve the issue. So, I continued to struggle on and search for an answer. When I was 14 years old, we moved to a different part of New Hampshire for school. While staying there, I met a Christian family. This family was different. Their family overflowed with joy and love. I felt like I was missing the element of joy and love in my own life. So, after seeing this I locked myself inside my room and in desperation prayed, “Lord, unless you give me the assurance of a clean heart, I am never going to come out of this room.” While inside my room, God spoke to me. I was reminded that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses all sins! I believed he had taken care of my anger and so I came out of my room. I realized that I needed to obey God and follow His exact plan for my life, not my own plan, so I accepted the Holy Spirit. Also during my teen years, in the summer, I was able to go to the Old Orchard Camp of The Missionary Alliance in Maine. Dr. A. B. Simpson would always preach and share the word of God. Although I would sometimes feel sleepy, I would try my hardest to stay

I find Pete Conrad interesting because he was an “adrenaline junkie”. He took flying lessons at 15 years old and when he was 16, he flew alone for the first time. On his journey to the moon, he broke the record for longest manned space flight. They experienced malfunctions in machinery and uncomfortable environments for eight days. NASA almost canceled the mission.…

Andrea Palpant Diley in the start of her book focuses a lot on the concept of what I call a dependent child 's faith. She shares many stories from her childhood that shaped her life and the one about the hitchhiker really drew my attention. She about talked how embarrassed she was as her father preached to the young hitchhiker in the car. This reminded of a lot of times in my childhood when I would travel around with my grandmother. She always would find a person to preach to, wither we were in the clothing store or the gas station.…

In his work “Salvation”, Langston Hughes, as a young African-American child, decided to describe a life-changing experience that occurred in his beliefs. At the age of twelve years old, Hughes describes that he has come to the point in his life that gained him the opportunity of being “saved” by Jesus. Just like all the other children, he was expected to accept Jesus’ into his life, and by doing so, he would be saved. Therefore, when the time came, Langston was escorted to the front row, and placed with the other children that were ready to also be saved. As the ceremony started to commence, the children were greeted with sermons, prayers, and moans from the clergy.…

It was the first day of our medical mission trip. The 13 of us were divided into four group: triage, clinic, pharmacy, and faith. Colin, Laure, and I sat in plastic white lawn chairs, facing the locals who sat on three wooden benches. We had prepared a short, spiritual lesson to bring Jesus’ love to the rural cities of the Dominican Republic. When I welcomed them in their native language, their faces softened.…

I was being driven to church on Sundays and youth group on Wednesdays for the first decade and a half of my life but it was only a routine, nothing more. This routine has been instilled in me since I first saw the light of day seventeen years ago yet I’ve never left my metaphorical bubble. I had grown up protected and shielded from the outside world and both the horrors and wonders it holds. When I transitioned out of Mennonite middle school, I was thrown into the deep end at a school where I knew no one and I couldn’t rely on Bible class to support my values. In all honesty, I lost my way.…

I grew up in an upper-middle class, white, Catholic family, in the middle of suburban Cary, North Carolina. Culture was a term introduced in school with pictures of exotic places and bright wardrobes; history lived inside textbooks with stories of war and migration. My fourth grade family history project contained one piece of information: my great-grandmother sailed to the States from Italy in 1904. The little history and culture introduced by my family showed me who I do not want to become. While the teachings of Christianity shaped me into a compassionate, open-hearted person, I struggle to accept the dogma that followed it.…

I’m very sorry that I wasn’t able to send you a letter for the past few years. Since the day I left Alaska, me and many other missionaries went through an unforgiving sea, docked our ship, Uranie on a small bay in Hawai’i island, and right now we’re in the middle of teaching some important things to these Hawaiians. I don’t know if you’ll fully understand, but the reason why I secretly sailed all the way out into the middle of the ocean is, because we missionaries needed to spread our Christianity to Hawai’i. When we landed on the island, all of the Hawaiians were showing most of their skin, the men showed off their big, and humongous muscles to the public throughout the hot sunny day, and they believed in these things called gods. Since I haven’t got a chance to tell you anything about what I’ve been doing, I must as well tell you now.…

Before this I had not heard of the Adrian Peterson lawsuit, my first reaction was shock. In today’s society I have heard of parents spanking their kids but nothing as extreme as what was dealt with here. For many older people they may not think this is as bad as it is because twenty years ago it was much more common and more accepted. I have a few antecedents of contact that impacted my understanding mostly due to previous experiences. The first is the fact that my dad and his siblings were physically abused by their dad while growing up.…
