Why Do I Deserve A Scholarship

I was raised by my grandparents in the small community of Spanish Town, Jamaica. There was a lack of education within my family and being from a poor background meant we faced a lot of struggles. However, my grandfather that was a farmer instilled in me qualities that money couldn 't buy. I was taught the importance of education and I saw it as a path to change our lives. As a child growing up I enjoyed farming, reading science comics and playing sports that were never meant for girls. I enjoyed being different and I refused to live by what society deemed normal. I wanted to be someone that could create history and at the age of thirteen I did just that. I got the opportunity to represent my country in female cricket. I was elated not only because it made my family proud but because it inspired others from my community as well. This was a community with a high rate of violence and I wanted these teenagers to believe that they didn 't have to be involved in crimes and that girls didn 't have to become pregnant at young ages. I wanted them to have dreams and to understand that through education and through sports we could change our lives. This was a period of my life that …show more content…
Through my difficult times I never once gave up because I held on to the hope of being able to study pharmacy. I will be an active member of the Sunderland Pharmaceutical Students Association and demonstrate my leadership and teamwork skills. I understand that through sports I am not only able to develop crucial skills but I am also able to promote health. I will therefore be involved in sporting activities and influence others to do the same at university. I have also continuously improved my academic results over the years and will continue to take part in groups that allow me to achieve that. There will be challenges at university but I welcome them and I will overcome
