College Admissions Essay: Real Identity As An Athlete

Real Identity Do we really know who we really are as humans in this world? We will be faced with a great number of challenges in life, where we are forced to be stronger and must learn to make it through. There will be many people trying to get in our way of success. The first thing we must do is find ourselves. If we truly know who we are, there will not be anyone who can stand in front of us and limit our capabilities of who we are. Having a sense of identity consists of knowing our occupations, social relationships, abilities, avocations and attributes. The environment can be a contributing factor in building self-identity which includes friends and family. Having a negative environment can lead to low self-esteem, in result leading to extra stressors. Personally, it took me a while to actually know who I am. One of my affiliations is that I am a huge Detroit Lions fan. Being an athlete to me was very important and enthusiastic, I learned many lessons from playing sports and learned how to be a good team leader. However I was always told school comes first. Attending school and doing well is just a part of me now. Although I believe determination is needed in someone to reach their goal, but circumstances play a role in that as well. I would also like to add that I am an Arab American in a time and place where we are labeled as “terrorists” and in order to live through it, we must learn to be confident and strong which I believe I have both of these characteristics. Having a caring heart was always in me. I am always looking to volunteer, whether it’s in a hospital, institution or school. Therefore now I am looking for a career in nursing because it fits me best, I love to help and be a hero by saving lives and making a difference in the lives of so
