Professionalism
I think the word professionalism means behaving in a way that is in accordance with the etiquette that is to be followed by a group of people in a certain environment. As for what I think employers mean by the word professionalism is that the employees are to go about their job or their tasks with seriousness and honesty. I think that employers feel that professionalism in the workplace aids in achieving the company’s goal in an efficient manner. An example of a time when I had to act professionally would have been when I was doing my internship abroad. The classroom and the workplace can be similar when it comes to showing respect for others in the workplace, being on time in the morning everyday or following a set of rules or policies. On the other hand the classroom and the workplace can be different in terms of dressing professionally or even showing up for class- (depending on the teacher). I’ve never been too worried about the perception other people create about me, however I do feel I portray myself as a more easy going person. I feel that I’m almost always easy going since I don’t believe in getting too stressed or worked up over things that I know I wouldn’t give too much thought in a few months or years down the line. I’m not really sure about an example since I’m almost always easy going. I feel this could be because I usually just do what I’m supposed to do so there’s not really much to worry about. If I had to give some example it would be over the summer when I stayed with my parents and the contrast I saw between my younger brother and I. My parents would always be after my brother, making sure he finishes his college applications and other related forms, whereas they just let me be because I didn’t have anything to run
