Professionalism In High School

I was told that you only have to be professional in business, but I later found that this is a half-truth. It is true that in the business world that being professional is expected, but it also spans out to everyday interactions. Professionalism to me is the tool/skill you use to conduct yourself with other people in an in respective manner, but also to make an impactful first impression. I like to use it especially in interactions with new people and not just with employers. Though professionalism is an important to my success, it is also, as I found out, a key to open new doors of opportunity. It was almost as if we worked in the judicial system. To give you an idea of how we ran or meetings, I will describe our meeting format. In every meeting we had, we needed to take notes and have our names, grade level, advisory teacher’s name, and date, including the time we start and finish the meeting, on it. We would start on our reports from the students who attended the teachers meeting if there was one before the meeting took place. Then we would move to old business and new business. After that, we finally move to our final announcements and end our meeting. The teachers meeting was what really important as the information we got from them allows us to effectively propose changes at our school. I was in class when I was called to the main office. I had to admit, I had the idea of I did something bad going through my, but I came to find out that I wasn’t in trouble. Instead I was shocked to learn that I and a few other students were selected to go to the World Affairs Council. The World Affairs Council invites speakers that include foreign representatives, American politicians, journalist and authors, and other notable figures in the worlds of science, art, and religion.
I was ecstatic about this new opportunity to attend the World Affairs Council. I was going to attend to Ambassador Christopher Hill’s event. He was the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, North Korea, and Iraq. In the event, we had a closed door discussion with the ambassador where we could ask him anything we wanted to. I was told I had to ask the first question and I did while attempting to keep my nerves down. It was still an awesome experience for me and my peers. I had the chance to represent my school and I did it well. So because a great job, I still had a few more doors still left
