The traditional method for intervention puts students with a specific language at a disadvantage by identifying SLD students later. RTI enables teacher’s through consistent progress monitoring to identify SLD students early to receive more intensive interventions. RTI also brings together the general education teacher and the special education together to create effective and efficient interventions. The traditional model required the special education teacher and general education teacher to work independently. The traditional model had larger more crowded classrooms whereas, RTI has smaller class sizes that focus on more individualized instruction.…

Response to Intervention (RTI), was introduced in 2004 during the revision of the federal law known as the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). It was introduced as a method to provide intensive assistance to children who are at risk of a disability and the overidentification of children with specific learning disabilities. The reason for RTI is to prevent children from failing in both academics and behaviors by providing them with research-based instruction, universal screening, and early intervention. RTI has a three-tier model of intervention; the first tier focuses on core curriculum, the second tier focuses on intervention for students in small groups, and lastly, those who continue to have difficulty receive intervention services…

The Check, Connect, and Expect Program (CCE) is a Tier Two SWPBIS intervention model (Cheney et al., 2010, p. 153) and is based on the 15-year research and implementation of Check and Connect (C&C; Sinclair, Christenson, Evelo, and Hurley, 1998, as cited in Cheney et al., 2010, p. 153) as well as the Behavioral Education Program (BEP) (BEP; Crone, Horner, & Hawken, 2004 as cited in Cheney et al., 2010, p. 153). In the process of CCE, a compassionate adult commits to daily interaction with targeted students with behavior issues that do not conform to Tier 1 intervention strategies (Cheney et al. 2010, p. 153). These positive adults (also referred to as “coaches”), mentor these at risk students and provide feedback on both academic and social development (Cheney et al., 2010, p. 153). In addition to being positive role-models to these socially at risk students, CCE coaches provide guidance in acquiring appropriate social skills and are taught self-regulating coping skills before exiting the program (Cheney et al., 2010, p. 153). Check-In, Check-Out, Basic-Plus Phase, Self-Monitoring, and Graduation Check-In…

Procedures Pupil performance was assessed under baseline and intervention conditions for a total of 4 weeks. This resulted in an A-C data-based, case study design. This particular design cannot establish a functional relationship between the use of PECS and pupil outcomes, but it can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of specific interventions over typical teaching procedures (Kennedy, 2005). During baseline sessions, instructional sessions were conducted with the teacher and teaching assistant using typical or normal instructional procedures. For the most part, baseline instruction consisted of discrete trial learning sessions in which some form of stimulus (e.g., directive, request, and verbal prompt) was provided to students.…

As an administrator, I would want to meet with teachers, evaluators, and other departmental staff members to see what qualifies students to be referred for services. I feel this is the starting point to this particular problem and I would want to ensure that teachers were not just feeling lost in regards to these particular students so without much effort were sending them to the Intervention Assistance Team (IAT) to help ease the burden of reaching that student. I would also want to do research and talk to individuals to see if perhaps a Response to Intervention (RTI) model was in place or how to implement one within the district so that everything possible was being done for each individual student prior to recommendation for services.…

With two months of exploring and practicing the Core Intervention Model at Ellwood Elementary School in the city of Goleta, CA, I (Xiaowei Qi, University of California Santa Barbara) participated in three sessions, tutoring kids in kindergarten and students in the second and fifth grade. My supervisors were Amanda Sweigart (the fifth grade), Samantha Farver (the second grade), and Judith Quintero (kindergarten). Regarding the journals about my experience as a tutor, among the three sessions, fifth graders learn independently, quietly, and quickly. Almost all the students in this class worked hard with great participation and fully focused their attentions on the tasks.…

Both schools I volunteer in use the response to intervention approach. Each week the classroom teachers have one on one time with the students to monitor progress. I am in preschool classes (one is special education and one is inclusive) so currently the students are assessed on letter recognition (capital and lower case) and letter sounds. There are quite a few students that are struggling, so the teachers work more one on one with them. I have actually taken on one of the students the days I am there.…

To me to intervene in practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities means social workers know about evidence-based interventions to help achieve the goals of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities they work with. Social workers understand the theories from all course work and critically evaluate and apply what we know to successfully help clients meet their goals. We realize that inter-professional and interdisciplinary collaboration is important to helping clients. We use what we understand about human behavior, person-in-environment and theoretical framework with our clients. We advocate and mediate with and for clients to ensure goals are met.…

The identification of delirium is still in poor state and is the major cause of the fatalities to the older people in the ICU. One of the major reasons for the lack of proper identification mechanism is that there is poor knowledge exchange and education for the registered nurses and other medical staff. It has been observed that knowledgeable nurses who understand delirium and have enough knowledge on identification of delirium are better placed to handle the identification of delirium. The knowledgeable nurses understand the need to have the right information on the need to have identification of delirium. While there are many educational models that have been developed for identifying and managing delirium in patient, there is little focus…

Similar to PBS, this program primary focus is the antecedent conditions of the behavior and the consequences of the behavior. In other words, this approach to create a positive reinforcement and avoid negative reinforcements. The key is to be able to identify the attention, activities, and the sensory of the student’s behavior. This type of approach is a trial-error, which if one method does not work, conductors of the program can try to create another solution. 5.…

Response to Intervention is an approach for differentiating instruction to help students who struggle in learning, in general, and get them to grade level. It is separated into three Tiers to separate student’s abilities so that the teacher is capable of accommodating her student's needs. Tier 1 focuses on developing the students reading abilities and preventing learning problems. Tier 2 focuses on struggling readers and extending the instruction to help the students reach grade level as soon as possible. Tier 3 is referred to as more intense instruction, and depending on the child’s improvement, it may result in the diagnosis of a reading disability.…

This improved my patience as I had to wait for them to finish before we could move on. This was extremely difficult when I was paired with two students of different abilities and I would often have to find extension tasks for the higher ability student to do whilst the lower ability student caught up. This helped me use my own initiative as I would set them tasks such as reading what they had written to make sure they understood it whilst the other children finished their work. I improved my visual communication skills by using a whiteboard to employ visual aids to help the children such as drawing pictures so they can understand the words. I also became familiar with the computer program ‘Widget’ which puts basic pictures alongside corresponding words.…
