This allows us to learn about resources that are offered in different areas. Many work with people all over the state, however, many people are not aware of them because they are in different parts of the state.
A lot of the times the social workers at my internship would say they know there is a service for something, however they can’t remember what organization provides it. This led to extra time researching for it. To help solve this issue I created a binder that lists all the resources. Now as we find things we just add it to the binder. Whenever this is the case I always speak to the former case manager and the treatment team. This allows me to gain a fuller picture of the client and family needs. As I have said in other journals most of my work is over the phone, I don’t meet most of my clients. This allows me to know where the client is at cognitively. We also have weekly meetings where we compare cases and help each other come up with intervention. This allows a fresh pair of eyes to view the issues. Many times, we focus on the big issue and forget the smaller ones. These meetings permit us others to help see that addressing a lot of the smaller issues make the bigger one appear to be less of a barrier to care. In my personal life I also run workshops for parents to learn what they need to help their children. This enables them to gain the tools to mediate and advocate on their own. I additionally help set up workshops for the social work program with my work with the club. Giving myself and fellow students valuable insight.
