Warner Pacific High School: A Conceptual Analysis

Our research question is, how many college students fulfill community service and chapel hours at Warner Pacific? This topic interested us because we are interested to learn how many Warner students have the time to fulfill their service and chapel hours. We are also interested to learn about their opinions towards these college requirements. The population we will be focusing on will be the upperclassmen, to see if their views have changed over the years they have been at Warner Pacific College. In order for us to have a baseline of where to start our study, we decided to research how other colleges went about community service hours as well as chapel requirements and punishments.

The purpose of this study was to “test the hypothesis that undergraduate ethics students who engage in community service work as part of their course requirements will score higher at the end of the semester on a test of moral reasoning than students who do not.” This study was made through cognitive and social/experiential approaches. The results of this experiment supported the hypothesis. The finding of this study was that there was no significant correlation between participation in community service work in the past and a student’s pre-test DIT. Basically, according to this study requiring community service hours at schools will most likely drive away students from the real purpose of serving others.
