Why According To Davis Do People Serve Essay

1. Why according to Davis, do people serve? Do you agree with these explanations? What else might motivate service ?
According to Adam Davis there are five main reasons as to why we do community service. The first reason is for devout purposes. Many people serve because of the love that they have for their God or gods. They feel that they are serving people by the grace of god. Myself being religious on occasion I serve for this reason. For me I was always told that if god gave you a gift it is your obligation to you it to serve others with it in his name. So a lot of the time I would sing or play the piano for the elderly on the Sabbath. Another reason according to Davis is because we share the earth. He says that this type of motivation

I do believe that some people fit in multiple of the reasons not just one of them. I do feel that the last two reasons, reputation and to make me feel like less of a sinner, are selfish and wish that more people did service for other reasons, but they are still real reasons. Regardless of why people are doing service, at least those who need help are getting it. Though these reasons are very good, there are still a lot of other reasons as to why some people do service. Another reason why a lot of people do service is because it is enforced. This is true in terms or school or the judicial system. As a student at Florida Gulf Coast University I am required to complete 80 hours of service or I can no gradate. I also have to do at least 20 hours every semester with my sorority and even some of my classes require me to do community service hours. A lot of criminals are also given the option to complete community service over jail time. Even though this reason doesn’t seem the most personable or nice, it leads to a lot of good outcome due to the fact that those being forced to do community service often receive more of a blessing from it than those who are being served. A lot of these people probably would have never completed any type of service if it wasn’t

We must serve our awesome God. When God came to earth as a man, Jesus, he didn’t just enjoy it, he worked, he served others. There are so many examples in the Bible of serving others. 1 Peter 4:10, Matthew 20:28, Proverbs 11:25, 1 Corinthians 9:19. My favorite two verses that explain servantship so well are Acts 20:35, “....…

Metanarrative Summary Act 1 God and Creation: God created us in his image to spread the love and message of Jesus Christ, this topic relates to christian worldview because we have grown up knowing that we were created by God loved by God and chosen by God to be his hands and feet in a dying world. Stanley McChrystal suggests in his essay, Lincoln’s Call to Service – and Ours, that a program be created called, Universal National Service. This program will create millions of jobs for individuals between the ages of 18 to 28. McChrystal believes that this program “will change the current cultural expectation that service is only the duty of those in uniform” (564). I agree with the need for such a program and feel that it would greatly benefit our country. If this program is created it will allow young individuals to get a feel for military life.…

Henok is always look for ways to serve his community, and his peers. This type of charecteristic in people is rare, and it is a charecteristic I envy. “The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him,” said G.K. Chesterton. A love for their country is why my veterans serve. It never really sunk into me how much veterans sacrifice for us. I think that we need to show as much respect to people that have served in the military forces to make us be able to be free. Or be able to pursue whatever we would like to.…

I have completed many hours of community service and I believe that it is my responsibility to involve myself in my community in any way possible. Getting involved in the community helps build a strong character and it teaches certain values that will benefit other communities. Speaking of community improvement, it is also my responsibility to pay any taxes set for me by our state and federal governments. Without taxpayer money, it would be impossible to maintain many of our most precious and crucial government funded organizations. If the American people allowed those organizations to fade away, we would be hurting our country and helping ourselves.…

and they fight you all the way. Same goes for a volunteer, a person who volunteers has compassion for what they are doing and not regret. I think if the United States government were to make it manditory to volunteer less people would want to do it out of kidness and more becuse they were being forced to. Donations would decrease substantualy and volunteering would depleed. Without the donations of the people some places like the churches and schools would have to close in some place because lack of…

Since college students are well suited for community service, by doing community services, they can "create...a lifelong commitment to volunteering. " They can also start "addressing the needs of those around them" because by doing that, they can help their community become better than it was before. Although performing community service can be helpful towards the individual themself and to those who live in the community, young people shouldn't be required to perform public services. Young people should not be forced to complete something that they do not want to do. Nobody wants to recieve "community service from someone who is forced to serve" because it does not give a good feeling to what they are doing.…

Everyday, thousands of high school students immerse themselves in their community and create satisfaction in helping others in need. Community service is a critical aspect of teen development. Without it, students do not realize how much it means to help others, and they do not get the full experience of working with different people. Volunteerism is required in many high schools around the United States, but not all of them. This issue is incredibly controversial because the debate is whether community service actually helps students in the long run.…
