Walmart Code Of Ethics

Decent Essays
Wal-Mart has a code of ethics for globe operations. However, if they didn’t it would affect the operational business in countries outside of the United States. Without a code there would not be a policy to direct operations, business strategy would not match the business operations as designed in the U.S., other countries preference in doing business would possible be obsolete. The reputation which Wal-Mart has established with other countries would be in jeopardy due to negative media coverage which could result in corruption, employment conditions or boycotts. Other countries constituencies would have a negative image, therefore engaging in ethic and corporate social responsibilities would not exist. Suppliers would not have any accountability

The U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) prohibits bribes to win business overseas. Also I believe the consumer has to speak up by using the theory of voting with dollars! We need to do the research by probing the track record of our favorite stores to shed light on their business ethics, labor and human rights. Another point of how Wal-Mart can avoid this in the future is having a more proactive approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and an adequate crisis management system. The reactive steps Wal-Mart has put in place regarding its compliance program will help prevent this from happening in the future.…

The book The World of Wal-Mart: Discounting the American Dream by Christine Labuski and Nick Copeland is not a conclusive book on Walmart, nor is it a criticism of the company. Wal-Mart is instead analyzed through the various contradictions that are portrayed about the company by American Culture. Walmart is viewed from an anthropological point of view as the authors demonstrate the different concepts by taking a critical look at Wal-Mart and the American Dream. The authors examine the uprising of Wal-Mart and accredit its success partially to the failures of the American society in not making the Dream available to society. In the World of Wal-Mart, Copeland credits Walmart with some ethical principles but says that these are overturned by…

As a child, parents have always been known to teach their little bundles of joy to never wander off without them, whether it be in the store, a mall, park etc. They were taught to stick to their parents like glue, and if need be, always hold their hand. It causes no surprise that children aren’t known to follow these simple rules willingly. In most cases, disobedience requires a little bit of life lessons to either set the child straight, or make the parent take drastic measures for the future. This is the perfect summary as to the event that occurred at a Walmart SuperCenter when I was only 4 years old.…

From the profit maximization or individualism theory point of view, every business when making the profit must consider the human right and the law. In this analysis, we will assume that Wal-Mart is guilty since it ignored the well being of everyone and anything in order to maximize its profits. In addition, there is substantial evidence that Wal-Mart paid bribes to a foreign official. Therefore, even the profit that they received unlawfully will not qualify as satisfactory under individualism theory. From the time they started issuing the bribes, they knew they are doing something unlawful.…
