On the opposing side of this argument is those who steadfastly defend video games. At this time all the research has failed to show a definite link to between violence in the world and video games. Instead they argue that any correlation can be explained by them being drawn to violent entertainment. At a very young age, kids are introduced to violence. It can be found everywhere. If the violent video games cause kids to commit crimes, then why has the juvenile crime rates significantly decreased, why the sales of violent video games increased? Between the years of 1999-2014 the sales of video games have increased by 204% reaching $13.1 billion in 2014. A 2014 peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Communication also found that as video game playing increased, there was less youth violence (Ferguson E1-E22). In another peer reviewed study it was found that the heat is risk factor for violence (Anderson, Bushman, and Groom 1213). We know that for sure smoking is a risk factor for lung cancer, but there is no really solid evidence that supports video games contribute to violence.
