For years the VA has been a profiting section of the government that wastes more money than it spends. The Washington post said “The Department of Veterans Affairs has been spending at least $6 billion a year in violation of federal contracting rules to pay for medical care and supplies, wasting taxpayer money and putting veterans at risk, according to an internal memo written by the agency’s senior official for procurement.” Vets are having to find other ways to get the help they need, due to the fact that the criteria of a vet in need to the VA isn't always what you would expect. PTSD is a serious problem among vets today and can be hidden. Most vets will not talk about it because there pride will get in the way. 22 vets a day commit suicide. The VA is trying to help reorganize and create more appointment opportunities for those in need and better care treatment. They are trying to restructure. Although this sounds good, in 2016 over 125,000 vets were denied care. That is way too high, no one should be denied care. In one year 7,500 vets die, imagine if they were rejected care, that would push anyone to ending their life if they couldn't get help from the one place they are encouraged to go get help.
My calling isn't just for stopping suicide in vets, it's for helping every vet get the treatment they need. Most vets are unemployed after the service and the only health care they have is the VA who feels it's necessary to waste 6billion dollars yearly instead of helping those in need. I know this won't affect most people but think about the families who watch their loved ones go through the pain of war and injury and can't get help. We need to restructure the chain of command and completely set the VA up to actually be beneficial. Thank
