William presents with a combination of physical, cognitive, and psychological symptoms. His poor coping skills have also made him susceptible to depression and drug abuse. Although it is evident that William’s situation is exacerbated by a type1 trauma brought on through his exposure to combat while in the Army, his readjustment issues are also perpetuated by a traumatic brain injury (TBI), as his symptoms include anxiety, memory loss and dizziness.

Unfortunenatly like many veterans suffering from PTSD, William’s first impression of the VA was a not a pleasant one and has deterred him from seeking services that he desperately needs. An alternative to seeking treatment can come by putting him in touch with the VA’s community base program known as the Vet Center. The Vet Centers primary mission consist of providing professional readjustment counseling for combat veterans suffering from PTSD and transitional problems. Along with brokering services, vet centers offer a link to important mental health services to the VA.
