As the newly hired HR consultant, I need to visit as many of the departments as I can to understand the dynamics of each and see the relationships between senior leaders, managers and staff. As well, I would like to conduct focus groups with staff to determine why they stay with the company. Another measure would be to poll newly hired staff inquiring into the hiring process and initial training. If possible, I would like to contact recently separated former employees to attempt to drill down why they left. This will give a potential baseline on the pulse of the company. After, the metrics gathered would give me a starting place from which to work. With the company I work for now, most staff are lost within the first 90 days. I will use this metric for Verizon as well. …show more content…
If there are indicators of weakness in training, it would be beneficial to evaluate manager’s ability to deliver said training. In the same light, assessing the management pipeline of current interns and determining their level of integration would assist in determining weaknesses in their training and assimilation into the company leadership pool. Later in this information gathering process, it would be helpful to hold separate focus groups to ask newly hired staff if they would recommend the company to family and to ask long term employees what would make the hiring and retention process better (Aruna & Anitha, 2015). With these complete sets of data, one could potentially develop a pilot program to run concurrently with the existing to determine which would have better results retaining staff and encouraging staff to recommend the company to
