VARK Learning Style Analysis
The VARK learning preference tool provides individuals with information that they can utilize to enhance their learning process by helping them to study more effectively and efficiently. The VARK tool consists of a questionnaire that the learner takes to identify which senses the individual uses to capture and process information, and serves as a guide to assist the individual to improve their learning by providing a summary of their preferred learning style. Given the high read/write and visual scores on the VARK questionnaire, additional changes could be made to study habits to include other aspects of learning strategies such as kinesthetic and aural styles. It would be beneficial to incorporate the less preferred learning strategies of aural learning when presented with educational topics that are presented in tutorial form, lecture, or video media. In an online educational program, the writer does not feel that working to strengthen kinesthetic learning strategies is of value at this time. This learning style this would have been of value to the writer as a first year nursing student while taking anatomy and physiology, chemistry courses, and other courses that required lab participation and touching of models, animals, or cadavers. (Meehan-Andrews, 2009). The kinesthetic preferred learning strategy may become useful for this writer in the future when statistics class begins and learning has to develop through trial and error and through computing and formulation of data with numbers. The benefits of this learning style will be evaluated further at that time.
