VARK Assessment: Multimodal Learning Preferences

Improved Essays
After completing the VARK assessment, I learned that I have a multimodal learning preference. I believe this to be true. Depending on what I am learning, I will use a different learning still to grasp what is being taught to me. I was aware of this prior to taking the test. For example, when I am learning a new procedure at work, I pick up the procedure quicker when the person shows me the process, provide a quick reference guide, and also provide some personal detail to task to help them with the procedure. I believe I am more of a kinesthetic learner above all the other learning preferences. I learn best when it’s a hands-on project or if I relate to the task. I love listening to motivational speakers who share their story of overcoming

I learn best through engaging hands-on activities. For example, I’ve learned how to perform CPR on a dummy, dissect a baby pig, and partake in an EMT simulation. Performing CPR on a dummy has taught me how deep I need to push down when performing CPR and how fast I need to go. Dissecting a baby pig has presented a better visual for me to locate various organs/systems and the EMT simulation taught me to think on my feet and work quickly in a team environment.…

Lesson 6 Learning Assessment For the evaluation of the Agency Culture Assessment, I am doing it on Children’s Hope Foster Family Agency on the program Transitional Housing Program (THP). Doing a qualitative approach is actually simple with the THP clients. I will consider doing a 12-month research since that is the average time that the youth stay in the program. For the key informants, I would choose social workers outside the agency who are knowledgeable of the THP population and people who are knowledgeable on how to conduct a qualitative approach.…

Therefore, my teacher explained to me I was a kinesthetic learning I have a sense of feeling of it and seeing it visually instead of it just being auditory. I can use my learning style in college because when I am unsure of what the professor may ask, I may ask her to draw a picture when explaining. Most professors, I know are visual learners, thus most of their lessons are all in PowerPoint or they use the Smart Board when teaching. Overall, the professors at Broward College are very understanding. They recognize that every student learns a different and I really appreciate the different learning styles…

Kinesthetic learning style is a style that involves learning by touching or doing things. Kinesthetic learners may find it easier to make a model rather than just read or just look at the book. Kinesthetic learners prefer touching the information by being creative. Kinesthetic learners want concrete, multi-sensory personal experiences in their learning so presenting concepts during lectures using suitable clinical case scenarios, analogies, real life examples, and metaphors will benefit kinesthetic learners, as will incorporating videos and movies. Teaching with multisensory approaches will also satisfy the need of multi-modal learners, especially those who are not satisfied until they have had input from all their preferred…

A Kinesthetic learner has a determined drive to learn new material through doing and to move occasionally. For both of these reasons, they can grow and do well in classes that involve a lot of hands on activity, such as those that include laboratory experiments, role playing and field trips. Through these means, they get a physical idea and sense of what is being studied, and also experience fuzzy ideas brought to life through examples and applications while interacting with others in the…

    VARK Inventory Reflection

Reflecting on my results from the VARK and MBTI inventories, I am not particularly surprised by what I see. The VARK inventory came back with a result of multimodal: 11 in visual, 13 in aural, 13 in read/write, and 14 in kinesthetic; whereas the MBTI inventory resulted in being an INTP: introvert, intuitive, perceiving, and right in the middle of thinking and feeling. I have no problems being a visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic learner, or all at once, if available. Although I prefer to learn hands on and by teaching others what I already know, I can adapt to any learning or teaching style. While this does pose it’s advantages, I have always found it hard to apply myself with learning things that I am not wholeheartedly interested…

Initially, I was aware that I am an auditory learner before taking the learning style assessment. However, I also assumed that I would score higher as a visual learner on the questionnaire. According to my learning style results, I scored a total of thirty-two points for auditory preferences for learning, compared to my scoring for both visual and tactile learning style that resulted in twenty-six points. After evaluating my assessment, I can recall from my past experiences in several of my science courses, where I used auditory learning style more during class lectures compared to visual style. To clarify, and as stated in my previous journal entries, before changing my major to health sciences, I was a radiology major.…

Kinesthetic learning is learning through experience from the application of your senses. I apply the kinesthetic learning style when it is available, such as labs for science, or on the job training. For myself this is the learning style where I can comprehend and understand the most as I will more likely be able to remember the experience. While the aural learning style is available to be used widely, kinesthetic learning is less broad. As a narrower field, it cannot always be practical to some things such as reading, or…

Learning is multidimensional. Very seldom will a learner use just one type of learning style. There are four different learning styles: Visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic and multimodal. Multimodal is a combination of two or more of the learning styles. Those who are multimodal in their preferences can be more flexible about how they take in and give out information than those with a VARK profile that emphasizes a single preference.…
