For the purpose of this exercise, I performed the VARK (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, Kinesthetic) Self-Assessment. Upon completion of the self-assessment, I was presented with the results, which were Visual 2, Aural 3, Read/Write 4, and Kinesthetic 7. This translates into a slight preference for Kinesthetic learning, in which I am more apt to learn from actually performing a task than attempting to simply hear about how it is performed, watching it be performed, or reading and writing about the item in question. Personally, I find that the results are not completely accurate, as I feel that I learn more from listening to someone explain a topic than reading and writing about that topic. This leads me to believe that …show more content…
As mentioned before, people who identify more within the kinesthetic learning modality, by nature of being so hands on when learning to do something, tend to actually lead by example through showing those that are coming behind them what worked in the past, what could work in the future, and most importantly in many cases, what not to do. This lends itself well to humility, as those that learn by doing, will fail more times than not, and need to be able to learn from their mistakes, brush off the feeling of being unsuccessful in their attempts, and carry on to another pathway to achieve success or even the knowledge to move on to another project entirely. By showing those that come later what pitfalls and problems to avoid, they are helping the group as a whole become more self-sufficient and become leaders themselves in the long run. Additionally, I feel that kinesthetic learners are also those who are not afraid to join those that they are working with in accomplishing the shared goal when required actionable and deliverable items are not being met. This action in and of itself is seen by many as one of the differences between being a manager of people and being a leader of people. While not a difficult transition to make, it does seem to be ever increasingly rare to come across in many …show more content…
When working with people that are more inclined to another learning style or method, you can learn from them while also helping to teach your own learning style to those around you. For a kinesthetic learner, learning how to make more succinct and cogent notes would help when there is something of importance that is mentioned within the learning experience that is complex enough to not be able to commit it to memory; something that is more of an abstract quality would be an example of this. The ability to listen, write it down, and read it back without any signal loss is key to increasing your multimodal learning experience. Additionally, being able to visualize something, as well as identify from a presented visual artifact, is a trait that many strong kinesthetic learners need to increase skills within. The abstract modeling of something within the mental space can prove advantageous when dealing with several ideologies within a chosen field; such interventional modeling, disease cluster grouping, and biostatistical analyses within public health journal articles.
Conversely, those who are not kinesthetic learners can learn from those that are by increasing their exposure to “real-world” examples, such as a program where those who are learning about a specific type of activity is then exposed to applications where that thought is brought to life. Examples of these activities and
