Kenny has many characteristics of the three styles of leadership mentioned above. Transformational leadership is defined in our text as a leader having the ability to convert followers into leaders, and a style of leadership that may also convert leaders into moral agents (p. 239). Some characteristics of transformational leadership include: relations orientation, revolutionary ideas, emerges in crisis, and proactive. Kenny has at least three of these characteristics—relations orientation, emerges in crisis, and proactive. Kenny is careful with his relationships with his crew members. He ensures that they are all treated equally and is fair with them. Additionally, he recognizes where they excel and where they don’t and assigns them projects …show more content…
Working together, Kenny and the crew were able to adapt to production challenges and become successful. Finally, servant leadership “defines success as giving and measures achievement by devotion to serving and leading. Winning becomes the creating of community through collaboration and team building” (p. 243). Characteristics of servant leadership include: listening, empathy, healing, persuasion, awareness, foresight, conceptualization, commitment to the growth of people, stewardship, and building community (p. 246). Kenny has quite a few of these. He is a good listener of his crew members when they have concerns, he is aware of their needs and the plant’s needs to be successful, he has a foresight that allows him to see what ought to be with his crew’s production levels, he is committed to the growth of his crew members skills, and he is certainly committed to building community among the team with his trust and fairness.
