History and Overview of the Issue
More organizations are recognizing the value of creating ethical workplace cultures. According to the United States Department of Labor (DOL), under federal law and Department of Labor (DOL) policy, harassment by DOL employees of DOL employees based on race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, or parental status is prohibited. The Department of Labor does not permit harassing conduct by anyone in the workplace, including contractors. “The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person 's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 and over), disability or genetic information (EEOC, n.d).”
Diversity encompasses all of the traditional aspects of diversity race and gender ethnicity and sexual orientation but for us it goes way beyond that diversity is about ensuring that every single person comes to the to work everyday and feels free to bring their full self to work and its not just welcoming but it 's really embracing and harnessing the diversity of thought diversity of background diversity of experience diversity in education not just the traditional aspects of diversity.
