Preliminary Ethic Survey Essay

The Preliminary Ethic Survey is a thought-provoking way to discover a person’s views regarding a moral question. As I am taking the survey, I had to briefly stop and deliberate some of the questions. The way I answered the questions was to consider all scenarios involved in the question before finalizing my answer. I must admit that some question was particularly difficult to answer because it requires a higher level of reasoning. It appears that certain questions could be interpreted dissimilar ways by different people. For example, in the question “It is always wrong to take a human life”, well we all should “agree” that taking a human life is always wrong but, there could be some contextual information making the answer a “strongly

Individuals hold distinct values and often conclude their interpretation of the world is true and right. It is this complex fusion of values and beliefs that lead to ethical dilemmas. After reading the basic moral concepts and doing further research I would consider myself a Moral Subjectivist. A Moral Subjectivist holds that "rights" and "wrongs" vary among humans and cultures based on individual feelings and social and other circumstances. I believe that humans all over the world have different experiences and cultivation. Not everyone is comparable and every human has a distinct way of viewing and perceiving whether I or others think is right or wrong. For example, a young African boy and his family were disciplined with "good" morals such as respecting neighbors, each other, and helping the community thrive.…

All human beings have free will to make decision but more importantly, everyone have good will. For Kant, good will has “whole value in itself” and “ its usefulness or fruitlessness can neither add to nor take away anything from this value”. Likewise, most individual would act to get something good out of it. However, the moral value of an act cannot rest on the consequences because a will is only good when it is good in itself and not what it accomplishes. Therefore, it is essential for Kant that one’s intention and reason play factors in determining whether an act is ethically right because one must act of duty for duty’s sake.…

I believe as a member I would have been able to learn more about my trust issues. I am a gay man who has not been able always openly express myself. By listening to other gay men share about their feelings, thoughts, and worries of how people may react to them, shows me that I am not alone in these thoughts. I think I would be able to learn how to communicate more effectively without worrying about being judged. I would be able to realize how much I want people to know about me and why I may feel it necessary to keep myself closed off.…

“Well, that is their opinion.” “Everyone has different morals.” “A person’s values may be different from yours.” These are common platitudes many people use to explain why some people or cultures uphold certain values while downplaying others. If this question of whether or not all ethics are relative, it is obvious that all ethics are not relative.…

Virtue ethics is a theory used to make moral decisions. It does not rely on an individual’s religion, culture or society in which they were brought up in; it solely depends on the individual themselves. Virtue ethics tends to focus more on a person character and the nature of what it is to be human, than with the actions of right and wrong. Instead of focusing on what is the right or wrong thing to do, virtue ethics asks how one can be a better person. Ethical theories analyze the different theory or system used to explain and make judgement regarding right, wrong, good choices, bad choices and decision making.…

In the first day of the presentations, all three cases are all clearly flawed ethically. It was quite obvious how each theory will evaluate the cases. To me, the group that stood out was the Enron case. Among all the students who present about the Enron case, the two person using Virtue ethics caught my attentions. In total, there are six components in Virtue Ethics, each of the presenters usd different ones to evaluate Enron.…

If it was a race between which team researchers (Seligman and Maier, Johnson and Tudor or Watson and Raynor) was the most unethical, it would be a tie. Given credit for the year that each study was completed its still amazing how far each researcher went pass ethical standards of today. While reading each study I tried to view each experiement from the researcher’s point of view, but this led me to a dead end of unanswered questions. Matter of fact, if anyone can answer how could Johnson have had such an emotional and burdensome history of stuttering, but turn around and expose other innocent and fragile children to such an experiment?…

While at work I spoke with a co-worker about several of the ethical dilemmas found at the end of the chapter breaks in the textbook. However, the dilemma that I choose to write about involves the family man revealing his past murder (Pollock, 2017). Within this particular dilemma scenario, a friend, a good family man reveals that he murdered someone several years ago. The friend goes on to say that a homeless individual was a suspect, but died before being prosecuted. Well, at this point in your friend’s life he takes care of his family, contributes to society, and appears to have changed from the individual who took another’s life.…

“People join Companies, but they leave managers.” The phrase is based on leadership- in all organization it always “begins and ends” with management. Poor management can lead employees to leave great organizations. As a former owner of a small business with 12+ employees, and as a manager myself- I have experienced all levels of disengagement from employees based on my poor performances or other manager’s lack of communication and teamwork.
