The use of medical marijuana has been a huge discussion topic in the United States. Many people argue the pros and cons of this drug being used for medical purposes. The large scale debate incases many different opinions on this drug. There are more patients that are claiming that marijuana is effective in treating symptoms from many different types of illnesses and disease. Learning more about the drug, the chemicals that can be extracted from the plant, can have the most benefits to the medical world. Finding different extracts from the plant can make a difference for the patients that benefit from medical marijuana. Marijuana, as of now sits on the Schedule 1 drug list for the United States. According to the DEA “Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule I drugs are the most dangerous drugs of all the drug schedules with potentially severe psychological or physical dependence. (DEA / Drug Scheduling 2016). Examples of theres drugs are heroin, LSD, marijuana, and ecstasy.” Since marijuana is on this list it makes it so testing for a beneficial purpose is harder to conduct. Without the help from the government it is harder to deliver farther research for the drug. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not recognized marijuana as a medicine.
