In chapter 2 I am very interested in how the brain can be stimulated. Especially the brains response when using tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. When using cannabis, it causes the brain to release a chemical known as dopamine. This chemical plays a role in many essential functions that help to regulate its activity. The way marijuana works is somewhat unique chemicals in marijuana also called cannabinoids. Cannabinoids indirectly increase dopamine by blocking the action of another neurotransmitter called GABA. GABA typically acts to inhibit the amount of dopamine released in the nucleus accumbens. Though, when GABA is blocked by marijuana compounds, the outcome is an increasing amount of dopamine released.
