As there were several cases where the Doctors themselves were at risk of being killed; the people did not really have the right to complain about any medical epidemic or problems that were going on. The only people who could were the leaders of the Third Reich. The Nazi Doctors showed clearly that a few doctors ended up killing themselves after the war because of what they did. “Wirths killed himself not as an act of conscience but because he couldn’t face the responsibility [of what he had done]” (Lifton 409). As ordered, Wirths had to do typhus experiments on the Auschwitz prisoners.…

The actors involved in the administration of “deadly medicine” believed that their actions were for the overall good of societal health and supported the Nazi’s central goal for humanity, however, the survivors had a much different story to tell and were able to testify against the perpetrators in the Nuremberg trials, also known as the Doctor Trials. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum has an exhibit on two of the testimonies, one from Father Miechalowski and the other from Vladislava Karolewska, provided. In their testimonies, the victims expressed the pain and suffering that they endured during the “cutting edge research” of the doctors who performed the tests. These stories brought forward and continue to bring forward strong emotions and feelings against the acts of “deadly medicine” and eugenics from audiences. Because so many people were against the forced experimentation and medical terrors that occurred in Nazi Germany, the Nuremberg Code was created in order to counter the actions of the doctors from this historical tragedy.…

Taking a young girl’s life away for her juvenile ignorance to an impossible situation is immoral, even for Nazi standards. Even though adults did not know exactly how to act when confronted by guards, they knew more than children and were at least able to temporarily attempt to defend themselves from the guards’ violence. Children were too frightened and did not know how to act. Guards and scientists took advantage of the children’s fear to justify killing them and experimenting on them. Dr. Mengele had a preparation room with fourteen Gypsy twins who were crying from the fear of their fate…

Medicine After The Holocaust also explores the T4 but in a different perspective with present day theory on the psychological effects on physicians that murdered. Michael A. Grodin uses present day theories of the psychological effects to justify why the physicians of Nazi Germany did what they did. Grodin states “in identifying themselves as part of a large machine working to “heal” society, Nazi physicians diffused responsibility to the group rather than taking individual responsibility for their actions (Grodin 2010, 54). The physicians did not see themselves as individuals doing the torturing and murdering but saw themselves as part of an elite and important group that carried out actions towards healing the society.
